Haha never thought of that but not on discovery. Its endomondo linked to my tomtom multisport. What you struggling with been running for the last 4 years so I can perhaps provide a little advice. Could be something as simple as changing your shoes.

Thanks and happy to receive any advice. I just seem unable to run as fast or as long in the road as I do on the treadmill. I am running in new balance trail run shoes.

Posted this in the getting into running thread, this should help. Just shout if you need more info. (I am no expert I am just speaking from my experience which is this (nothing special though):1552741353104.png

My tips coming from someone who never ran a day in their life to 40-60km a week in 5-6 months.

1. Get decent shoes, I would say try Asics at least, new balance/Nike/Puma/Addidas are decent but you want to try get proper running shoes if you want to take this a bit more seriously. Other options are Brookes and Saucony. Remember you running kit is limited not like cycling so spend more on shoes if you have strange feet issues like I do go to a foot DR and get them to recommend the right SHOE and SIZE.
2. Get a nice couch to 5km running program, this is a great starting point.
3. DO NOT DO TO MUCH TOO SOON.
4. in case you missed point 3 DO NOT DO TO MUCH TOO SOON. This can mess you up big time thats why I recommend couch to 5km.
5. Get decent running clothes. MR price sport is more than sufficient here. You want proper technical tshirts and shorts. The shorts are R100-R150 shirts are R100-R150 as well. Nothing more needed here for now. I wont really upgrade these. This makes a world of difference to wick sweat etc away. I run with skipants under my shorts prevents all chafing which is hell after about 2km
6. Warm up - Cool down and get a foam roller. Cheap one for R150 at dischem is more than sufficient. Youtube how they work will help you get through a lot of muscle pains.
7. Drink enough water during the day, during the run. When you take this more seriously you will get to the point of eating to run properly.
8. You can get a running/gps watch if you want this motivated me at first. I am still using my tomtom multisport. You can pick these up for a steal on OLX if you go secondhand.
9. Lastly, remember a bad run is better than no run. Keep up the effort your body is an ever evolving machine that will adapt to the new effort you are putting in.

All the best. Running has changed both my and my wife's lives for the better.

I supplement the running with gym but you dont have to my OCD personality would make me broke if I took up cycling so running is perfect for me.

Well written, good article. Wish Joburg running was safer at night, would let me get more into practice.

Not a workout as such, but did some clean up work in delta Park

Walking definitely counts as a workout - low intensity, low impact/risk of injury, efficient fat burning excercise, good to support and maintain weightloss.

I loosely follow Mark Sissons 'Primal Blueprint' framework for my fitness regime one of which is 'Move slowly often' - 2-3 hours per week of low intensity exercise, whether it's 1/2 hour a day, a hike at the weekend or a couple of hours wandering round the shops. It all counts.

A weekend of not much exercise other than flexing brain muscles to attempt to get a handle on assignment... Took the furkids for a short hike Saturday morning, and walking around The Cure concert Saturday after made hitting Saturday's step goal a breeze.... Yesterday was my butt on couch and nose in books, so nothing to report there. Screenshot_20190318-055107.png
