The 2019 Weight Loss Thread - Workout Check-in Thread

@InvisibleJim @Snyper564 @abudabi @dabean Thankyou for the encouragement folks it means a lot! Gets me off my arse when I really don't want to. Not quite there yet but you all taking an interest pushes me on. Have an epic, productive, week!

You're welcome Poppie... erm. I mean LilMissChoffel. :P Biggest hurdle to overcome is just to start.. once you've done that it's a million times easier to carry on and finish. And then you get the sense of accomplishment afterwards.

Sorry I've been absent this week gang. Have been on leave so not much time on the laptop. Great that you guys have kept it going. I still managed to do my ab exercises (just finished a session now actually during the last 30 mins of a 9 hour loadshed disaster.) Also this week had some gym sessions and even went back for a 2nd round of the gridgames. Nailed it with topscore for the club so far so I'm pretty stoked. I've seen some other clubs' scores though so I'll have to practice some more... but loving it.

Keep it real gang!
Oh, and well done on your 10kms @Snyper564 and @InvisibleJim

A pleasure. Glad you have found us helpful.

Keep going strong, you'll need a bigger kettlebell soon :)

Totally agree. For years it seemed impossible that I would ever be able incorporate exercise around a full time job, even when I fully understood what I needed to do. In the end I was lucky that someone gave me the right push at the right time and it suddenly became very easy for me. Sticking to a routine for 30 days or so and it starts to become a habit.

Oh, and well done on your 10kms @Snyper564 and @InvisibleJim

Thanks. Been doing more fitness sessions and running less than usual for the last four or five months so it's nice to get out there. I think we get the best weather for running this time of year so hope we get to make the most of it.

Nothing yesterday to report, spent the day on my butt in tattooist's chair, then straight out for family dinner after. BF is man down with man flu, so I went on a brisk walk myself this morning, and just finished 2nd round of KB.

@InvisibleJim I was thinking of increasing weight of KB, mentioned I was on 2kg to my artist yesterday and he was like "Go to 8!"...I think I'd die  Recommended next weight?

This morning's stuff:

6-8kg might not be totally crazy. You mentioned before that you have had some instruction on kettlebells previously and that you are comfortable with your form. I have seen ladies of fairly moderate fitness levels manage kettlebell swings in that range with a small amount of practice.

On the flip side of that, I don't really know your fitness level or if you have any injuries/pre-existing conditions and I don't want to encourage you to risk injury. Plus I'm not a fitness professional!

Maybe go to Sportsmans Warehouse or a gym (if you have access to one) and see if you can get a feel for the 4-8Kg Bells. Your choice may also depend on where your goals are - if you want to continue a quick 2 minute of swings per day, maybe a 4kg is OK. If you are ready to level up to a 20-30 minute kettlebell workout maybe 2-3 times per week then it would probably be good to go a bit heavier if you can.

Hope that helps.

It does, thanks I can feel on quite a few of the exercises I need heavier weights, they no longer feel like they are working muscle groups the way they should (arms and shoulders mostly), but for things like squats and some core exercises I'm only just managing. I'll go test some at a sports store and find a happy medium. I'm thinking the 6... I'll still have my lighter ones to return to if I don't feel okay with heavier on some exercises at least.

And don't worry, I won't be holding you responsible should I incur any injuries :thumbsup:

Sounds like a plan. You can always mix and match sizes and also bodyweight only if you're battling in certain areas.

Thanks:) I think it's worth stating these things though. It's easy to sound authoritative on a subject and thanks to Google it is also easy to acquire just enough knowledge on a subject to be a danger to oneself and others.

Got you; logic is oft missing in many aspects these days. Thanks again for feedback though!

I was aiming to get a 6kg kettlebell, but the only one available in lower weights was an 8kg.... Holy crap that's heavy!! I have to support / stabilise with alternate hand on things like shoulder press, and my range of movement is waaaaaay limited to what I'm used to (understandably!), and I can already feel this measly five minutes is going to hurt tomorrow, but hey, go big or go home, right? Baby steps again re length of routines, but I'm very curious to see how long it takes for me to manage a full range on a hammer grip curl, and all the other exercises that will no doubt change from "Oh this again, yawn" to "F*#@ I'm weak!"

Haha.. Well done for sticking it out.

Even if you do less reps in the beginning.. That's fine... Build it up.

I've also done some reading lately and have increased the weight on my exercises considerably at the expense of fewer reps. Apparently it's OK and builds more muscle.

Time will tell.

Good to know... I'll keep trying

That is probably the best advice anyone can give, "push till failure" is the term the guys at the gym by me call it. When something gets to heavy to be pushed correctly that's when you injure yourself.

Trying to force out 12 reps when after 6 you are at failure is stupid but after a week or two maybe 8-12 reps will be your new failure point.

The body gets strong quickly I cant believe 8 weeks ago 4kg's on a dumbbell was heavy for me and now 12kg's are my new strength point.

Yeah I am very curious to see how long it takes for me to adjust to the new weight indeed. A heads up, I won't be updating here much re daily targets met for the foreseeable short-term future, I seem to have picked up the BF's cold. Started this morning and currently sitting at desk with scratchy sore throat, annoying cough and the sweats.

Get well soon, don't over do it, it can do more damage than good! Nothing like a cold/flu to throw off good habit forming behavior
