The 2019 Weight Loss Thread - Workout Check-in Thread

Tried out a new 3rd party app on my Garmin watch to track my core and HIIT session tonight. Still trying to figure it out but seems the strength training tracking features are in the paid version only.

Stats bit skewed because the first 30min was my core exercises and the last 10min was sprints.

30 minutes skipping. Started off on the wrong sensor. Didn't recover as well as I'd like.

I'll take tomorrow off.

Well bloody done. Some intense stuff.

I wish I could do the rope skipping thing. But alas bad knees run in the family. I've never been able to manage more than 5min before collapsing in pain and unable to almost walk the next day.

You'd be surprised how quickly you can learn. Baby steps.

It's actually quite low impact.

@APoc184 I bought my first rope a year ago. I was always the kid with the sick note for gym class.

My posture was all wrong at first and I started off doing 3 minutes, with lots of rest included. I watched Youtube videos and jumped as often as I could. Yoga helped lots too -- never realised how tight I was.

Thanks. But unfortunately we do have hip and knee problems in the family. Even our toddler is currently under observation by an orthopedic surgeon for an issue with his hip and knee angles. His next check up and x-ray session is actually next month. It is not major but we do have to focus on some stuff and avoid others.

Which is also why I got into strength training as suggested by my surgeon. And it HAS helped a lot to strengthen the muscles around the problem areas.

Skipping just always look like so much fun.

Understood, I just think it's better than strength training at fixing your joint issues.

Ideally it should be lower impact than jogging. My feet aren't even sore today (at first I'd limp for days). Joint issues point to problems elsewhere in the kinetic chain. Personally I had a bad anterior pelvic tilt and knock knees and rounded shoulders. I jumped way too high at first of course.

It's really a long sequence of "ah-ha" moments until one day you notice you've stopped counting and that breathing harder doesn't actually help at all.

Relaxing into the flow is one of my favourite things now.

Main Workout: Chinups, Bulgarian Split Squats, Basic Bridge, Hanging Knee Raises, Squat Hold
Hit a tyre with a sledge hammer and bear crawls for a little bit extra then 4 x 60 count elbow planks to finish.

Need to better that run time, not very good

I'm sure you will. There's quite a lot to be said for slowing down on your training runs a bit, especially if you're working up to longer distances - get into fat burning and/or endurance heart rate zones. I'm also told that sprints or short interval runs every 10 or 14 days are helpful improving pace. - You have a Tom Tom? I use the Runner Cardio for my runs and that has an interval setting.

"Nobody ever went for a run and regretted it"

I agree with your sentiment but I know many people (including my wife) who regret it every time they run :D

I'm not a pure runner but I can't imagine aspiring to all round fitness without running being a key part my routine.

Yes, TomTom, problem is to get new bands, etc. for it.
