The 2019 Weight Loss Thread

Don't sacrifice what you want the most, for what you want right now!

Say no to that chocolate or beer or pizza!
Ah words to live by, that's why I got my biltong ready. Ppl don't understand that the only way to curb cravings is ditch all the crap. Don't keep chocolate or chips if its your downfall. One bite of chocolate and 15 minutes later I have consumed the slab! Now I can happily nibble on biltong that I prepared and I know whats in it if I need to nibble. All the best guys keep strong! Just checked weight this morning 4.4kg down since Jan!

LETS DO THIS

I feel like there is a case to be made here for using google sheets or similar tool.

Reddits Keto challenge use them, works quite well.

Just looking at all the "please add", "you missed my update" posts. I think it could make our facilitator's life easier. Set up a daily back up with Zapier, and if someone decides to be spiteful and nuke the sheet, you've only lost a day.

Not a good week but still carrying on.

Had work lunches on Monday and Tuesday, stomach bug from Wednesday so couldn't do exercise on Thursday and Friday and then a big braai last night.

As it stands though, on the standard weekly weight in, I'm at: 85.6kg

In an effort to have healthy snacks I have made my own biltong and yesterday's whilst staring at the lindt dark chocolate selection I thought mmm I'm sure I can find an alternative. So after some digging I found the following. 2 parts coconut oil 2 parts cocoa and 1 part honey or maple syrup. Heat on very low heat pour into mold and freeze. Turned out perfectly! Not exactly chocolate but exactly what I was looking for. Added a little nut butter to mine and was absolutely delicious. I say this isn't true chocolate it cannot live outside the fridge but it can remain in blocks it's a wonderful healthy alternative if you like dark chocolate

Healthy is relative. Full of carbs, that
Don't dispute that. But I have a serious sweet tooth and a tiny block of this is sufficient to curb that. I'm someone who can eat a slab of chocolate at a time. As I have said before everything in moderation. I'm on no diet or eating plan so thats a perfect alternative for me. Especially when being at the gym or running abt 5 times a week burning about 400 to 600 calories a shot.

If you replace the syrup with a keto friendly one, it should be fine. Or make your own with sugar alcohols.

For the IF 'ers, lots of good info here...
https://idmprogram.com/fasting-a-history-part-i/

including this gem which explains why your body will not go into starvation mode, break down muscle or slow your metabolism...

imagine that we are living in Paleolithic times. During the summer of plenty, we eat lots of food and store some of that as fat on our body. Now it is winter, and there is nothing to eat. What do you suppose our body does. Should we start burning our precious muscle while preserving our stored food (fat)? Doesn’t that sound pretty idiotic?

It’s as if you store firewood for a wood-burning oven. You pack lots of firewood away in your storage unit. In fact, you have so much, it is spilling out all over your house and you don’t even have enough room for all the wood you’ve stored. But when the time comes to start up the oven, you immediately chop up your sofa and throw that into the oven. Pretty stupid right? Why would we assume our body is also so stupid?

The logical thing to do is to start burning the stored wood. In the case of the body, we start to burn the stored food (fat stores) instead of burning precious muscle
