i think hunt didnt get it last year because of the pressure he would be under during the WC.

Gavin and Pitso are in the running, hopefully they do what the springboks did after 2003
 
I think it will be Pitso Mosimane since he's been in the setup even before Parreira came, he was being groomed for the position.
 
Parreira - overrated and overpaid... he didn't want to help Bafana Bafana get to the second stage of the competition... how different is he from Jomo Sono? Jomo Sono got SA to the World Cup in Korea Japan 2002 and he managed to Beat slovenia and lose narrowly to Spain and earn a 2-2 draw against paraguay... How much was Sono paid?
 
It's all but confirmed by SAFA now;

Johannesburg - Pitso Mosimane will be confirmed as Bafana Bafana’s new coach on Thursday, according to sources at Kickoff Magazine.

As expected, the man who assisted outgoing coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and his predecessor Joel Santana will be given the task of leading the national team to the 2012 African Nations Cup, as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Also in the running was Gavin Hunt who, after winning three successive Absa Premiership titles with SuperSport United, was many people’s favourite to replace Parreira, but it seems the SAFA bosses have opted for continuity instead.

what the hell has that got to do with anything. you are measured on results as a coach. he could not achieve anything with the same players. thats an indictment in itself. we need to start appointing the best people into available positions. at the moment gavin hunt is the best SA coach and should get the position. the same situation occured when gordon ingesund was the best coach, he was overlooked and thats actually why we are in this situation today with bafana. IMO gordon is still one of the best and has worked with a large group of south africas talent available today.

but i get the feeling SAFA would prefer to have a yes man in this position...

Gavin Hunt failed to build a league winning team before and could only win it with a team that Pitso had built....
Pitso won maybe 4 cups during his reign at Supersport.
I reckon Pitso will be better suited for the national team job because most games are played under knockout like situations.
Gavin Hunt remains the best local league coach though(after Ted Dumitriu)

with the resources he had at supersport he should have won the league with that team...its another convenient selection..he is he gonna build bafana up so that another coach can take over? we need a winning coach in that position..i thought the would be selecting the best local coach this time around...:whistle:

So by this logic Gavin Hunt should have won the league at Black Leopards? Gavin is a great coach, but Pitso is better for Bafana, for now at least. There is also the fact that Gavin's SSU have done poorly in cup competitions, and have never 'chased down' a league win.

ingesund would be better than both of them...but he is not a yes man...this is a moot point we are stuck with pitso
 
I think everyone is going about this the wrong way... you don't build a great team from Medicore teachings...
This is the saying: “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime"

what is required by SAFA is to build great structures amongst the youth... how do you teach idoits not to be idoits when that mentality is engraved into their mind?

In 2002 when Sepp BLoater announce SA as the WC hosts, SAFA should have pumped money into building a team not only for 2010 but 2014!

Why do you think our Springboks are doing so well? years after the 1995 WC?

We got the WCin 2004, but I agree that the main focus needs to be development. We need good schools and youth leagues, and proper leagues below the PSL. The NFD is the 2nd division, but it's a wasteland!

you preaching to the converted. i cant for the life of me understand why i have to watch kids play soccer next to the n2 on a sand pitch no less. safa is too busy paying themselves multi-million bonuses to worry about development. the riches at youth level is in abundance but when they reach their late teens the roads runs a bit dry. we need a national u/19 league. there was talk about starting it again but i'm not sure how far the discussions got. the lack of development of south africa is evident when you look at teams around africa. their standard of soccer is improving while ours appears to be going backwards or at the very least spinning its wheels...

schools are built without soccer fields these days...
 
Pitso is the new coach, and Bafana have a game against Ghana:

Former Bafana Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane has been inducted as South African national soccer coach in Johannesburg.

The SA Football Association executive had previously announced his appointment.

The new coach will be thrown in at the deep end with an opening match against Ghana at Soccer City on August 11 - a Fifa international date which ensures all players are available.

Mosimane indicated he favoured the retention of the previous Bafana Bafana technical team under Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

SAFA has again conveniently directed the focus on "who the coach is" as the problem/point of of debate. while the real point of debate/problem is in fact SAFA and their approach to the development of the game

how will they do this and pay themselves huge bonuses..its priorities..i wonder how big the bonuses will be for hosting a successfull world cup...
 
Tickets are now on sale for Bafana's match against Ghana: Computicket

The game should be good, and Joburg should easily sell the stadium out. I don't know why they aren't using different pricing catergories for the game though.
