cape town doesnt matter. soccer only gets played in the top half of south africa apparently. now that we have a nice shiny stadium i wonder what excuse will be used now...

I suppose the logistics and economics pay a big part in deciding where friendly games are staged. If I am not mistaken the host picks up the tab for the visting team's travel and accomodation. Bearing in mind that SAFA's entourage needs to be accomodated as well it becomes harder to see how they would choose CPT over JHB where they are already based. Also the visitors may have a say on the choice of the venue, i.e one that is most convinient for their players to jet in and out without too many connecting flights.

But don't worry cause the shiny new stadium will be in use on the 28th August when two CPT sides take on Orlando Pirates and some other team in a double header.

Using Newlands was an issue in the past. You need to get a special clearance certificate to play football there. I think that CTS will get a game, but Soccer City will be used for most of Bafana's games in future.

Injury problems started hitting Bafana this weekend, first Kagisho Dikgacoi got injured, and Andile Jali was called up as a replacement. Jali was injured during yesterday's Charity Cup though.

Bafana Bafana have suffered a second injury blow ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly against Ghana at Soccer City when Andile Jali was forced to withdraw.

The Orlando Pirates midfielder had only come in as a late replacement for Fulham’s Kagisho Dikgacoi, who is battling a thigh strain.

But Jali then suffered an ankle injury in yesterday’s Telkom Charity Cup, where he was named Man of the Match in the opening 1-0 defeat of AmaZulu.

“I got the news that I had been called up for Bafana, but now have to miss that after I picked up an ankle injury yesterday,” he tells KickOff.com.

Just a few minutes to kick off and I really wish that SABC did pre game coverage. They only start at 8.30 hopefully Bafana can pull of a win tonight.
 
It feels like the Ghanaians dont know what to do? It's like they're lost because SA are just owning!
 
Good win by the boys, hopefully we build on this and start climbing up the ladder of being a powerhouse in african football.
 
still think we should play 4-4-2 formation... 4-5-1 is way too defensive for my liking plus we don't exactly ahve those quality cross floating in...

Actually we played 4-4-2 in the first half and reverted to 4-3-3 in the second half.
 
Looks like Cape Town may get a Bafana game before the end of the year:

Cape Town - The SA Football Association (SAFA) and Cape Town Stadium operators SAIL/Stadefrance are on the verge of concluding a deal that could see Bafana Bafana play their first international friendly at the stadium.

According to Tuesday's Cape Argus, SAFA chief executive Leslie Sedibe said an announcement was imminent. He said SAFA was negotiating with SAIL/Stadefrance for a possible fixture before the end of the year.

SAFA has been inundated with requests for the national team to play in Cape Town after the Soccer World Cup, but Sedibe said Safa could simply not afford the stadium's high rental fees.

Sedibe said the cost of hiring the Cape Town Stadium was "extremely high", and that SAFA was negotiating for a better price.

SAIL/Stadefrance executive Morne du Plessis confirmed that the operators were in discussions with SAFA.

The match is likely to be the Mandela Challenge match, sheduled for sometime in November, or a warm up to one of the two AFCON qualifiers this year. As for the rental, I know that CTS is crazy with its pricing, but Ajax have requested to play 15 games there this season.
