Squad changes:

Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa has been ruled out of the Bafana Bafana squad to face Lesotho, Central African Republic and Ethiopia in the upcoming international matches.

Pa joins Kagisho Dikgacoi and Tsepo Masilela on the Bafana injury list. Gaxa will be replaced by Russia-based Siyanda Xulu, while Ricardo Nunes has come in for Masilela.

Gaxa is suffering from a hamstring injury which forced him to be taken off the field in the final of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday in Durban, where Chiefs beat SuperSport United 1-0.

Xulu is now out too:

Siyanda Xulu is having treatment on his injured ankle today, but it is unlikely he will be fit for the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against CAR and Ethiopia next month.

Xulu played for his Russian side FC Rostov in their 2-0 relegation play-off victory over SKA Energiya on Thursday, but was taken off with 20 minutes to go after feeling pain in his ankle.

Kick off is at 3pm today. Coverage on Supersport HD4, 4, Select and SABC1 starts at 2.30pm. It should be a good warm up, but Bafana need a convincing win to build momentum for the next 2 qualifiers.

Apparently this is the starting 11:

Sandilands
Ngcongca, Mathoho, Nthete (cap), Nunes
Furman, Manyisa, Tshabalala, Segolela
Mashego, Parker

Khune is being rested, Phala and Fransmann have slight knocks and Letsholonyane is suspended due to a build up of yellow cards. I'm not sure why Nthete is captaining, I thought that Tshabalala was the vice captain.

Maybe a sign his era is ending? Remember he was unable to get into the starting line up at the AFCON with all the regulars available.
 
Could be, but Nthete is new at Bafana level. Segolela scored again to make it 2-0, 60 minutes in. I must admit, I was suprised that Segolela wwas in the squad, but it paid off for GI.
 
2-0 at full time. Bafana seemed to be uninterested in the last 10 minutes. They were up by 2, but hopeflly they won't make this mistake in a qualifier.

A win is a win though, so well done.

I wish South Africans would stop this nonsense of getting flashy when they think they are comfortably in front. If I was a coach I'd tear them a new one if they started doing that.

A good win and warm up for the CAR . This match will be a lot tougher. I still believe we can do it.

We need 2 wins, it will be really difficult, but it's what must be done. That will put us on 11 points. Assuming that CAR and Ethiopia both beat Botswana, that will put CAR on 6, and Ethiopia on 10. We play Botswana at home in our last match, and will only need to match Ethiopia's result to progress. If Botswana could beat or get a draw against CAR and Ethiopia, that would help a lot. For now though, our fate is in our own hands.
 
New FIFA rankings

Zurich - Bafana Bafana dropped four places to 60th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.

They also slipped one position to 10th in the ratings among African nations.

The team NEEDS to be in the top 10 in Africa, to ensure good draws for qualifiers. Hopefully SAFA will get their **** together and organise a friendly for August, since not playing doesn't help to gain points.
 
Bafana play Central African Republic tomorrow in Yaounde, Cameroon. Coverage is on SABC 1, or so they claim. The SABC has the match on their schedule at 3pm, but Wikipedia has the match at 3pm (UTC+1), which would make it 4pm SA time. Supersport also has the match listed at 4pm. FIFA lists the match at 3pm in Cameroon. So, I assume that the geniuses at the SABC forgot about the time difference.
