You need to maintain your muscle mass while losing fat. Eating the right amount of protein helps with that. Eating fat will keep you satisfied and within your calorie goals for the day. There needs to be a balance sure, but protein is the more important to target to hit.

Yeh sure, but what I'm trying to say is just eat meat like a normal person, not less... whenever I mention to people I do LCHF/Banting they go "Oh, yeh, but I can't eat that much meat" :wtf:

Please help me understand the following:
The way I understand it is that with IF, you limit your calorie intake to a small window period, which has shown to have weight loss benefits. The aim of IF is not to reduce your calorie intake, rather eat the same amount of calories in a smaller window period.
Is this correct?

Reason I ask is that I did a 18 hour fast yesterday (to try to overcome a plateau), and I just could not eat my 1400 calories in the remaining 6 hours. I was too full. I ended up eating around 800 calories. I am just concerned I am eating too less, hence making the weight loss counter productive.

We lose weight by calorie deficit. This means that, to lose weight, your body must burn more calories than you put into your mouth - the shortfall is burnt from fat. Your body converts carbs, protein and fat to energy and burns it (very little work required to "process" sugar and simple carbs) . Protein and fat make your body work harder to switch it to fuel to burn compared to most carbohydrates - hence often sugar and simple carbs are called empty calories. Because your body works harder to burn calories from fat and protein, you use more energy to burn energy. LCHF makes you eat less which means fewer calories in and your body is using more energy to convert fats and protein to energy - double win! Calorie deficit is very much required - fast and eat normally when you eat again. Don't count calories.

At the moment, I am eating once every 24 hours (in the evening), combined with LCHF. The weight is haemorrhaging off.

Yip, I am doing an aggressive Mon+Wed 24hr fast and then the rest of the days I will fast for 16hrs before eating lunch and then supper. I am considering adding another 24hr fast day. I can feel the weight falling off me big time and hunger is not an issue.

Last night's supper completed a 34hr fast - it went very well and I did not feel hungry or any weakness. I ate a big breakfast on Sunday at 9am and fasted through Sunday and Monday, eating a normal LCHF supper - I thought I was going to binge but I battled to finish the normal sized supper. Uber calorie deficit!

My motivation is rapid weight loss to get back to my all time LCHF low and I am on a money saving mission. I am spending hardly anything on food because I am fasting through so many meals.

I do have 3-4 cups of coffee a day even when I am fasting, with a splash of full fat milk. I drink tons of water throughout the day

im a bit confused by the people who eat only 2 or less meals a day losing weight. I was always told by dietician and doctors that you have to eat a lot of small meals throughout the day - otherwise your body goes into a "protective" mode where it will hold on to fat cells and refuse to burn them in order to preserve itself during this "hunger" phase?

those people do not know what they are talking about... they got taught a certain way, and do not adapt as new research is done.

So if i can "live" with a good portion of LCHF food for Breakfast say, and don't need anything to eat until the next morning again - i should lose weight?

absolutely... but if I were you, I would eat the 1 meal in the evening. sleeping on an empty stomach might not be lekker :p

just remember one thing... LCHF is not just what you eat... but what you don't eat... probably more important is the 'what you don't eat' part

Yip - As Fanie said - wrong advice. Why eat when you are not hungry? That is how people get fat!

You will lose weight as long as you keep insulin levels in control by controlling sugar and carb intake and by creating a calorie deficit - eat less than you burn. Skipping "mealtimes" when you are not hungry will cause the deficit and you will lose weight.

I have lost a lot of weight by eating only when hungry and not snacking.
Snacking is unnecessary. It spikes your blood sugar levels.
Old research claimed we need to eat about 6 small meals a day to keep metabolism high.
New research suggests otherwise.

I never understood eating when you're not hungry. I can understand folks being confused between hunger and cravings but having lunch for the sake of lunch just seems odd.

What do you guys use that strawberry flavoured syrup for?

I cant imagine it to be too beneficial. I have read that the main reason to avoid things like diet sodas and sweeteners is because they can trick your body into believing that it is getting some sugar, thereby causing it to release insulin, the fat storing hormone.

This is just what I read. Its truth is still to be validated.

Not sure, but for my own sanity and craving sake, I just stay away from stuff that tries to replace the original.... like these fake breads, pastas, and other carbs.

For a sweet bite I eat Lindt 90% and then recently I made some frozen fat bomb sweeties as a after dinner snack.

Ha, wife made me a dark chocalate espresso fudge cake for my birthday, damn it was good :D 2 x Lindt 85% slabs + espresso coffee, some xylitol, eggs and almond\coconut flour.

Damn thing was self limiting too as one slice was very rich and you couldn't really eat more than one in a sitting.
