The Banting/LCHF Thread

The scale is the enemy! Don't get on it more than once a week. And always weigh the same time of day.
Rather check your measurements. You will notice that you still loose cm's.

Don't worry. I know how weight can flucuate, so it doesn't bother me at all. Our "main" weigh-ins are on friday mornings at the office. That's the one that matters. I just do the daily stuff for statistical purposes :D

Anyone know if this stuff can be used on the Banting program?

For some reason I just had this scary image of a bunch of naked fat men standing in line to get on a scale :wtf:

Yea sometimes I just don know, its as if people/companies get a complete brain freeze, The 1st thing people do that's on the LCHF diet is check the nutritional values, But Dischem decided no leave out this important piece of information
http://dischem.co.za/product-search/filter_name/MET-S

I did however find this,
http://www.metscare.com/met-s-care-products/index.html
Its seems like the bar has 9 carbs, and the shake has 12 carbs.

That's to high for my liking, might try the Jelly.

Cape Town peeps

Please share your favourite spots to visit for banting supplies or other related. I am down there for a week from this Friday and would like to go to such places as EL is properly starved for this sort of thing.

If they were serious about being "Banting friendly" they would publish the ingredients on their website. But, since they don't I would be suspicious. Their shakes for example are probably sweetened some how. Since they also do a "Sucralose based" sweetener I'm guessing they probably use this which means its a no no.

Which area will you be in?

Nothing wrong with Sucralose.

STEVIA, SUGAR ALCOHOLS AND ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

These are very helpful in the interim stage of suddenly switching from a sugary diet to a no-sugar diet.
It can be extremely difficult for some people, and while the ideal is to retrain your taste buds away from the
desire for sugar, realistically this is only going to be the experience of very few. If a sugar alcohol or natural
sweetener such as stevia helps to avoid resorting to sugar or artificial sweeteners, it is worth using them.
With their low or zero carb count, sugar alcohols can be used to bring flavour to some foods.

Stevia is a natural herb and has been shown to have blood-sugar balancing benefits, no calories, no carbs
and is 600 times sweeter than sugar, so just a tiny bit of powder or liquid is used in sweetening a beverage
or dish. This would be the sweetener of choice, but one could also use a sugar alcohol such as erythritol
or xylitol for baking. These can mean the difference between continuing to Bant and returning to a sugary
diet. They taste almost identical to sugar, but are considerably more expensive.
Artificial sweeteners (including sucralose, acusulfame K, cyclamates and saccharine) on the other hand
are particularly harmful to the body and the brain, and amazingly – though being touted as “slimming
aids” – have been shown to increase hunger and cause weight gain. The added benefit of sugar alcohols
is that if you have too much (over nine teaspoons a day), you will have looser stools, and it may combat
a troublesome constipation problem in the early stages of Banting, but that’s the worst that can happen.
Stevia does not have this effect, and it has been shown to help balance blood sugar.

Well I have lost 10kg in just over 2 months, And I drink 4 - 5 cups of coffee each day, each with 3 Sucralose tabs.

I'm just quoting the so called rules :)

My chop spice has actual sugar in it (and my pants are falling down :p )

If you have a cooler to take some meat back I can recommend The Boer & Butcher
(Durbanville)

Also there are numerous Wellness Warehouses around town which stock many of the products you'll be looking for.

It's not all about how many Kg's you shed, it's the healthy living thing too.....you weigh 10kg less, but how much insulin is swimming in your blood? I guess if you don't care about being healthy, but just about the kg's, then there should be more corners that you can cut.

Sucralose has zero effect on insulin. Your body cannot metabolise it.
