The Banting/LCHF Thread

Bread made with replacements for the carb-heavy flour. Like coconut flour or almond flour.
thx

But the problem with it is that those replacement flours are quite heavy calorie wise - so it affects weight loss. While we don't count calories on LCHF, weight loss still requires a calorie deficit to happen.
you've been banting waaaaay too long :p

Does anyone else experience this very strange thing:

My day usually goes, double Nespresso with cream at 7am, then only eat brunch somewhere between 11am and 2pm. My wedding ring currently fits me perfectly - as in easily on and off.

BUT, within 15 minutes of eating my midday meal, my fingers suddenly shrink and my wedding ring becomes so loose that it has fallen off before. This lasts a few hours and then things are back to normal. It is so wierd - I can't explain it! I am sitting here now and I can literally slide the ring off with my thumb like it is coated in oil (and no, it isn't residual oil\fat from my lunch on my hand)

Are your hands cold or warm?

What you guys drinking?

We drink instant coffee with full cream milk and the SO tea half the time.

Over weekends we buy Liptons Lite Ice Tea.

What should we drink as a refresher besides water? SO has been adding lemon slices in her cold water lately.

We are cutting off bread from today. Snacks are difficult. Especially the days when there's no left overs from the night before. And one can only have so much boiled eggs for breakfast or lunch.

less coffee more water... especially if you want to lose weight.

for a change from water I sometimes have a Monster Absolute Zero.

I don't think that Lite Ice Tea is a good thing. What's the carb content?

make more food in the evenings. plan for lunch.

this is one thing i've realised. planning is everything on banting... and time... time to make the food from scratch... there is no place where you can stop on your way home from work and quickly buy a banting friendly takeaway.

Brookes-Low-Cal-Grapefruit-Squash-1L.jpg pretty much 0% cal, there is a manhattan ice tea (only one flavor)that is also close to 0%, the rest you might as well drink coke

and how's the carb content of that?

There are 3 flavours
Grapefruit
passion fruit and i think a lemon, the grapefruit is really really low, can check the actual content tonight when i get home dont have a bottle with me at work.

Will post tonight

googled it, doesn't look to bad. but someone said artificial sweetners might cause insulin spikes. so try and stay away from it completely.

:) I have a glucose testing kit so if anything is added or changed in my diet i monitor myself.

Has sweetener in - even though it is zero or low calorie, studies have shown that artificial sweetener can trick the body into thinking sugar is on the way and the body reacts by creating an insulin response = out of keto and ultimate weight loss stall.

For what it is worth - while losing, I never drank anything besides water, soda water and coffee+cream. Even now, I only have a coke zero if we go to a restaurant. At home, I drink water and coffee - this is mostly by choice but I am cautious of artificial sweetener and the above mentioned insulin responses...

As an FYI - the only time I have put on 2kg's while in maintenance, was when I had lots of diet cold drinks and was eating those caring candy chocolates - sweetener in action.

Are your hands cold or warm?

I do wash my hands before eating, so maybe. But...

Been 90min since washing hands and eating and my ring is still loose..... somehow, in my body, water retention is linked to my meals - when I eat, my body seems to be releasing water...

I have no other explanation

Just to clear something up i don't do "banting" i watch my diet for a completely different reasons. Tried doing the full banting thing last year didn't end well, for my mind and my car :D

So then I gather you are not after a goal weight, but just want to live cleaner and without sugar?

If that is the case, this is where I am now - I want to avoid all sugar and added sugar - this is pretty much everything that is processed.

Low calorie cordials and diet drinks are fine in my book and a lot better than sugar laden stuff. I just have this fear of putting on weight and choose to live without said cordials and diet drinks - only on special occasions.

As a sugar replacement - they are awesome! Sugar is the devil!
