I bought a book years ago called Scrawny to Brawny the premise for which is that for skinny feckers trick to growing muscle is eating a moer of a lot.

It has a formula for calculating calorie intake which worked out to 4000 calories for me.

I'm beginning to think is BS.

Ah okay, I'm no expert by any means so talk any advice with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't push myself to the point of nausea. What I would do however is to make sure I eat at a surplus everyday and get 150-300g of protein in. As you progress you will know when you need more food.

Totally agree 4k is a fck load

2800 is more than enough if making protein 60% carbs 20% fats 30% for example

Although with my body I tend to go

Protein 60% carbs 40%

The fats will be natural occurring ie, when I cook my meat.
Hmm. That's interesting.

The whole eating thing just gets me down. I'm a hard-gainer, and therefore have to take in a lot or calories. As I've just started out (properly) with training, I'm going to start eating right, etc. But it's such a mission! The planning and cost involved in eating about 6 times a day is just mental. I've never eaten a lot (stuck to 3 times a day), but adding 3 meals in there is daunting. Currently just adding a shake before and after on training days. Need to work on my body (read: belly) fat. Currently 83kg and 1.78m - may seem contradictory as that BMI doesn't indicate that I'm a hard-gainer. My body seems to have filled out a bit with age, as I've been a rake all my life.

Also having issues with 5x5 and the small weight increments as my gym doesn't have them (or some knob has stacked them in between the 20's). They'll need to fit on an Olympic bar, so may be a mission finding them.

Yeah I think I need to cut back a bit. I'm getting about 180g of protein. I might just cut back on the snacking.

What are your macros on training days with regards to carb intake? Thinking of changing it up and getting in a lot more carbs. Tried it yesterday and didn't feel so pap after my workout.

Yesterday was my first training day. 50%fat 30% protein 20% carbs. I think I need to eat a bit less.

Why would you think its BS? I designed my own program and came out to eating just under 3500 calories a day.Went from 66-82 kg in 3 months.BF went up too though.Must remember to eat clean.I wasnt.

Just because I can't imagine consistently eating that much more than I'm eating now at the weight and muscle mass I'm at now. What would my body do with all those calories.

What is the thinking around this? If you eat clean above maintenance x amount of calories, you will have lean gains, WHEREAS if you eat dirty x amount of calories then you will have a higher fat gain than eating clean?

There is a guy called Paulo Sportz on FB, who doesn't seem to agree with this. He is in the IIFYM camp.

Agreed, unless you're 100% sure you can shake the weight afterwards. I know I wouldn't :D

Are you sure we are talking about the same protein here...

100g of chicken does not equate to 100g protein...

Where did I say that? If you can't fit in +-200g of protein into 2500 calories then you're eating the wrong stuff, this is what I ate last year on a workout day:

Edit: Columns are kcal, carbs, fat, prot. So thats 236g of protein in just under 2.5k calories...

Those I got from the label on the package I always bought and it will be different depending on the meat/fat ratio, so hardly a fact that 300g is 41g :whistling:. Google rates 100g lean mince as 21g, so 250g should be around 53g, that's pretty close to 60? Besides, the figures wont always be 100%, and that's not the point of the discussion...
