i get enough rest (probably more than what is needed), and i'm no serious body builder i'd rather call gyming my something to do...
...but i think you have a point there, my focus and drive is not what it should be
how do i get my motivation up?
zen: what would you suggest as a new routine for my chest day - i do flat bech press with a barbell, then incline with dumbells, then flys supersetted with push ups, etc in that order
Well I couldn't care less when it comes to bodybuilding, I enjoy training and the fact that it helps me to feel fit, healthy and strong
I would drop the fly's etc. Stick with doing bench presses but try altering your sets/reps ratio. Try doing 8 sets of three reps on a "working weight". Ie do your normal warm up sets and then when you get to your working weight eg. 70 kgs. Then you do 8 sets of 3 reps on that weight.
The following weeks you can increase your working weight by either 2.5 to 5 Kgs and keep on doing that until you reach a weight where it becomes really difficult to do 3 reps. Then you drop it to two reps and carry on. It's a very effective way of increasing strength. Also like I suggested with Xrapid, try "pausing" on your chest when you bench between reps for about a second (just enough for you to bring the bar to a stop and then press hard "exploding" upwards).
As for the rest of chest, try normal flat bench presses with DB's with no/a very slight incline. You honestly don't need a very big difference in degrees for different areas and fibres to be targeted in your chest. IIRC it only takes 5-10 degrees change in angulation for different chest fibers to be utilized.
I would also recommend strengthening your triceps as this plays a major role in locking out a heavier weight. I love free hanging dips, which you can add weight to a karate belt eg. and then hook in a 5-10 kg DB. Also do 5 sets of 6 on a working weight. There are many more exercises that you can do but I would start with these. You can also add some skull crushers to the mix but I think if you just change your routine a little then you'll see improvements pretty soon.
