The Droid TV thread

aah i didnt see this one. the one i posted was R300. so maybe this would be a better option. Im not sure why these type of remotes dont come standard with the Droid boxes. ill see if Jaque can make magic for me lol... :D

Well if I already have one, I wouldn't want to order another. It would just push the price of the droid box up and forces the buyer to take something they might not need or want. I'm glad it's optional - but that's just me.

i understand that. However, not everybody already has one of these remotes. My question was purely on the fact that the box you will most likely do alot of typing or searching etc, and that the included remote will be a bit of a struggle for those specific needs.

i also understand that adding those remotes could push the pricing up, but in theory it shouldnt, and should with these boxes be the standard remote.

Am i being a bit unnecessary here? lol :D

My wife needs up, down, left, right, select, play, pause. If you're using it purely for media, that's all you need. Why pay an extra R350 for something you don't need? Besides, people have their own preferences, some would rather use a bluetooth mouse and full size keyboard - especially if you use it for RDP from time to time. You can't please everyone, so rather let people choose and only sell them what they want.

@Icemanbrfc: I am using the T2 air mouse (R250) on my MXIII. If you are on a tight budget you can use a wireless/wired USB desktop mouse instead. Many customers seem to be happy with that. Some of the android apps will not work with the IR remote as they are designed for a touch screen cell phone and you will probably need some type of mouse.

Something like this should work ...

cheers pal, will have a look at that. :)

Icemanbrfc: Takealot seems to be down for me right now but you might be able to get a good discount on a wireless mouse/air mouse/keyboard if you can find a coupon in the Takealot voucher thread.

If you can find a voucher these might be of interest. The T2, MX3 and F10 will be nicer though ...

Guys, the units do come with HDMI-CEC so you should be able to use your standard IR remote just for media playback and general purposes. Even XBMC works on my LG remote. With my M3 I used a standard Wifi 2.4 ghz keyboard and mouse combination. I don't like keyboards and mice in my living room period and eliminated it totally.

Icemanbrfc why dont you wait until we get you that air mouse we were discussing last night?

I have a Logitech Harmony. How easy would it be to get that up and running with the MXQ?
Also, how does one get the cursor function to work on the standard remote?

I might get one of the air remotes as I need to be able to navigate Netflix, and I don't really want a keyboard and mouse in the lounge.

@d4zza: You can look at this guide on how to use a Harmony remote with an android media player. I can read the hex codes using dmesg on my MXIII if you need any pointers.

The mouse key (slanted arrow) should toggle between mouse and icon mode. In mouse mode the arrow keys will move the cursor slowly in the direction pressed while in icon mode the arrow keys will jump between icons. Just test it in an app like Hulu.

I am using the T2 air mouse which works really well with the MXIII. Here are a few videos that show it in action.

Any retro gamers here?

I finally got around to installing the MAME and SNES emulators on the DroidTV. MAME is free and SNES is R10 for the ad free version.

If there's enough interest, I'll create a HowTo on mbox and upload a pre-configured patch.

Sounds fun. Is it possible to get an xbox controller to work on it?

Side note, just switched to another hdmi cable, still flashes. I have also patched it. Might try v2 just now and see.

Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers should work.

Try changing your HZ setting to either 50 or 60 hz.

Stuff like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Loom, Discworld, etc.
...as well as loads of games for the younger kiddies (story book type)
