The Eredar Initiative

TheShogun, yes, I agree raiding can be enjoyable if that is what you like.

This all began because I made a comment about the horde having an easier time in PVP.

It then turned into a horde vs alliance madhouse, comparing population ratios and the effects on PVP queues, to warriors being skill-less automatons, to PVE gear being superior and more difficult to obtain than PVP gear etc.

My original sentiment still stands - I believe, and am not alone in my belief, that horde = ezmode for PVP (in general).

Seriously, thats 1 thing our casters/healers need... situational awareness

stupid nubs stand and cast while stuck in al'ars aoe/vr's orbs, infernals at prince - i normally shout WTFINCMOVEURASS!

doing sum (not alot) of pvp, ive learnt quite a bit of situational awareness...
apart from being a hunter who learnt how 2 kite pre-tbc taking dragons from Burning Steppes to SW/Goldshire (man those were the days :p), running into mobs was never a good thing

For sure, you cant really compare the two.
Its two different areas of the game.
Resilience is everything in arena. But yes, PVE is by far... and I really mean it, by far harder than PVP. Saying you just need to read a guide and you know how to do a boss is err... how do I put it, pretty ignorant.

I really hate what blizzard done to certain aspects of the game with regards to the PVP system and rewards.
In the old days, a high warlord was a INCREDIBLE hard achievement to reach. Honestly, I salute high warlords. The weapons + gear they had access to were so incredibly imba, even me as a PVE player was drooling over them. We had 1 high warlord PVE'ing with high warlord weapons. He was playing a warrior and he murdered our dps charts with his damage output. Nowdays getting PVP epic's is a joke. Hell I am sitting with 5k arena points and I didn't even have to win all my games to get it. In a nutshell, doing PVP you are guaranteed of getting your epic's. Even a n00b that cant kill Gamon in orgri can do his 10 arena games a week and sit with Tier 6 equivalent gear in a few weeks. Same with BG's... go and jump up and down in the AV cave, and if you don't get reported, you still harvest some nice pvp points, which you did'nt even have to work for.

One weekend with double honour AV and you can walk out with loads of epics you can buy with your honour points.

One thing I will state though, a good PVP'er can bring lots of value to a raid force, as PVP'ers have excellent reaction times and are incredibly aware of whats going on around them. Some of the best PVE'rs on our server, is strangely enough old ex-high warlords :)

I don't buy this. Raiders think that because they raid, and are in a privileged position due to knowing the right ppl or whatever, they should have exclusive access to good gear.

Pre-TBC good quality epics were almost impossible to come by if you didn't raid. Attaining High Warlord gear took so much time <-----TIME and effort hardly anyone could obtain them. They were basically honor farmers taking turns. Spent upwards of 40+ hours a week just PVP'ing in premade destroying PUG's. I don't have respect for them, they were just lucky enough to have inordinate amounts of free time and a group of co-farmers.

Just winning an odd game of arena here and there and AFK'ing in AV (try afk'ing in WSG/EOTS/AB btw, u need those marks too) will not get you the gear in anything less than three months. Easy? How much gear would n raider have obtained in that time? Because you are a raider and do a few arena games here and there does not make the fact that players spend all their time in arena and BG's any less important.

I understand that raiders are very touchy about what they do, as this is the "purist" approach to MMORPG's. But don't come piss on the PVP fire thinking you're anything better because you are able to fill a slot in a 25 man raid successfully. I've said it once and I'll say it again, both PVP and PVE have their advantages and challenges - it depends on what type of player you are.

You can ofc do both, and I know ppl who do it successfully. One of the best warriors on our realm respecs a few times a week to switch between PVE and PVP. To that man, I take my hat off. Just because I don't PVE does not mean I don't deserve the gear I have. If anything, before TBC and Arena's, the game was grossly in favor of raiders and things have only balanced out now.

Situational Awareness is most likely the most valued trait you can find in a raider and a hallmark of the good raiders.

I too have screamed "Get out of the God Damn Charred Earth u &#%#@$ moron" many a time.

PS for Prince you can avoid a lot of the randomness by having him tanked within range of the doorway. That way your Ranged DPS and Healers never have to worry about Infernals.

Hey don't diss Druids, sometimes we have to put down the coffee cup and pause the episode of CSI we've been watching and press the "Challenging Roar" button . :D

As for the original topic about the US Server...well everyone i've met so far has LEFT/QUIT their US Servers and moved over to EU servers...some say it's lagg , most say it's the TIMEZONE . So i'd say it doesn't make as much sense to play on US servers if you're in SA ,especially if there's alot of Saffers on EU servers already.

Ok Let me first start off by answering this statement of yours :

"Just winning an odd game of arena here and there and AFK'ing in AV (try afk'ing in WSG/EOTS/AB btw, u need those marks too) will not get you the gear in anything less than three months. Easy? How much gear would n raider have obtained in that time? "

Ok you WILL get a medal even if you loose, so you don't need to win. So if you need 20 medals.. you play 20 games. (granted if you win you need to do less games). 20 games... hmmm one afternoon max. Hard ? Not at all.

PVE - you need to actually kill the boss for a item. What do you get if you dont kill a boss ? A nice fat repair bill. Still seem fair ? Hardly, a PVP'er will get his gear, even if he looses. Still think its an accomplishment ?

Now lets say you kill kael, vashj or whatever... and you are lucky enough to get a token for your tiered item... now, you actually share that token with 3 other classes... so if you have a 25 man raid, you need to work it out with 5/6 other people who gets it. Surely DKP becomes a factor then, you bid your DKP on the item, DKP which might have taken you up to 20 raids to get to that certain point, which you bid ALL away to ensure you get that drop. Tommorow something else drops that you want... guess what, you dont have any DKP left, so you must play numerous nights away obtaining DKP again, so that you have something to bid with. I still say, ANY n00b can get PVP epic's. Its not hard, not hard at all. We are not even talking about the time it takes to master a boss encounter like Vashj / Kael which takes up to 2/3 weeks to get one kill. Certain bosses you never master, as there is just too many variables that can go wrong, hence most guilds tend to NOT do bosses like Vashj + Kael over and over.

Sorry, but I still say the old high warlords earned their gear the hard way, and I can honestly say, I was never able to reach it, it was just too hard. Even if you made it to warlord status, to reach high warlord level's you needed to group up with other top PVP'ers.

All in all, the game changed a lot... in the old days, if you saw people running around orgri with epic's it was a "drool" factor, nowdays everyone has epic's... hardly an accomplishment anymore...

Lol. I'm not dissing I used to love the aggro generation of Feral Tanks when i still played on my Shaman. It meant I could rip the mob a new one a lot faster :P

Arena gear = cheap epics.

And everything that pornolio said. If I see someone in full T6 I know hes been around for a loong time and he has really seen it all. And I just have to reiterate Pornolio's point : The MT in my guild spends about 100g per raid... pots/elixirs/weapon buffs/flasks/repair bills. a good night of wiping on a hard boss costs me quite near to 100g as well. Do u have any idea how demoralizing it is to wipe on the same boss 6 times in a row ? And then walk away empty handed when your hard work gets the boss down ?

Arena = /w a few buddies, make a 3v3, 500 arena points per week. You dont even need to be above average skills-wise. It costs you nothing

20 lost games at 15 minutes a game is 5 hours played. Losing WSG gives 0 honor, unless you manage a flag capture here and there. Ab loss can bag you a bit of honor, but not much. Same for EOTS. Simply standing around doing nothing and losing BG games is a HUGE time sink, even worse than raiding and not killing a boss. Anyone who does this is indeed a noob, and he will get his S1 gear when the skilled PVP'ers are in S4 gear. GG.

The fact that you need to kill a boss to get his loot, despite being obvious, is a task than can be done if your guild is half-way decent. If you struggle to kill bosses and have to repair all the time, well, I guess you are in the wrong guild then -.-

The timing is all relevant, like I said:

Skilled PVE = Quicker gear progression (not guaranteed)
Skilled PVP = Quicker gear progression (guaranteed)

Noob PVE = No gear progression (not guaranteed)
Noob PVP = Slow gear progression (guaranteed)

The variable in PVE is overall guild skill, so if you down bosses each attempt = Fastest gear progression. So the better you raid, the less time it takes to get gear. You also get access to the next tier of epics before the PVP'ers, due to arena seasons starting later than new raiding gear comes out. This is the benefit of raiding. If your guild sucks and you don't get the gear you want fast enough, thats just tough.

In PVP, your skill also determines the rate at which you gain new gear. The better you play, the faster you get access to good gear. The benefit for the casual player is that you can still obtain the gear you want gradually, albeit slower than the hardcore players. Casual does not mean noob in this case. Idiots might get gear eventually, but will have to wait way longer to get it.

The whole DKP shlep is something raiders deal with and are used to. Its like gambling and I'm not a gambler. It doesn't make things harder, its just more up to chance than anything else if you get what you want when you want it. Some ppl obviously like this.

"Sorry, but I still say the old high warlords earned their gear the hard way, and I can honestly say, I was never able to reach it, it was just too hard. Even if you made it to warlord status, to reach high warlord level's you needed to group up with other top PVP'ers. "

Exactly, I have way more respect for a person who reached Warlord on his own than a farmer who reached High Warlord with other farmers. That title means nothing to me, it doesn't tell you anything about the skill of that player, only that he was willing to waste an insane amount of time farming honor. That is why Blizzard introduced Arena's, to be a true reflection of a player's PVP skill .

The game has evened out if that is what you are referring to, its not only the elite raiders who have epics now. And that is how it should be.

I love a good arguement... my guild hates me 4 it

Saying pve gear is way more OP than pvp/arena gear is just BS...

I've said this b4... s3 gear is now better than t5 (cept for the uber set bonuses),and requires a HELL of alot less focus/money/time... Ive been raiding t5 dungeons for the past 3months , still havent gotten 1 token yet

U say pve gear is imba, the guys with t6 dont go and pvp in other free 18hrs of the day, they grind mats for pots, do dailies for repairs (unless they've got nothing better to do - ie after illidan has been farmed 100times over)

"Idiots might get gear eventually, but will have to wait way longer to get it." ive seen players wearing 2 piece s2, rest are greens, thinking they the 1337+1 of the 1337

On both sides of the game PVP/PVE there are the hardcores... im more 70% pve hardcore, Cloud u sound 110% PVP hardcore. I reckon sum1 will reply to this post saying "it balances out cos of resilience"... sure resilience has nothing to do in pve, but the sheer amount of stam gear, entices any1 with half a brain wanting welfare epix (mages tanking in the Mauglar fight excluded)to do arena, then use the arena gear in raiding... wat pisses me off (ive said this a few times as well) is... the fact s3 looks like t6, L2BORIGINAL useless blizz devs, design arena gear 2 look as crap as pvp gear did >.>

cos as Pornolio stated, its soo much harder to PVE at a high lvl (vashj for example) than to PVP against other 70s that u could fight in any BG, and yes we DESERVE to have unique gear, as we've accomplished extremely hard milestones

I definitely agree it's a different skill set though.
Nihilum proved this when they got WTFPWNED in a 5v5 exhibition match against a dedicated Arena team.

You have about 50 people in each of your arena teams for some reason. Your personal record is < 50% wins

You have been in 9 different guilds

I stopped looking when I saw your green gems and missing enchants.

Try show up for a high end raid like that and you will be insta kicked from raid. Everyone in my guild has fully enchanted/gemmed gear with the best available. They have stacks of every pot and elixir available...because thats what it takes to win. You stick to PvP where you can show up half arsed and get epics...it doesnt bother me...just dont try lecture anyone about stuff you clearly know fkall about...your reputation tab...LAWL

this poor thread sure went south ie. OT really quickly. It's now a mudslingingiknowbetterthanyouandcanpwnub4ucantype'daddycomehelpmecauseibeingganked' thread. Kind of like I am the thread killer thread.

PVP Skill > PVE Skill

I rest my case.

The problem is Mr Genius...noone has been arguing that PvP doesnt require skill. The argument is that it doesnt require skill to get PvP gear

It takes a great deal of skill to achieve a 2.5k arena rating...BUT you dont need a 2.5 rating to earn (lol) your welfare epics.

Cloud you are still beating around the bush.

SSC boss drops 3/4 epics, 25 ppl in a raid.

Do 10 arena games per week, which takes like 1 night - 400/500 arena point s guaranteed. And if you really enjoy Arena you will do more & more and inevitably get your rating up to give u like 600pts per week.

you do the math.

PVP Skill > PVE Skill

I rest my case.

Talk about only what you want to hear.

When Nihilum were interviewed they readily admitted that while their PvE skills are without peer they aren't as good in PvP BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT SKILL TYPES.

Good PvP players and good PvE players are 2 different breeds.

Wow, your armory skills amaze me.

First off all, armory is fcuked at the moment.

* I haven't played an arena game since the reset since my net connection at home is messed up

* Its hard to get your personal rating up when you haven't even played a single game

* According to the armory I'm in Melee Specialists, a charter I signed for a lowbie to start his guidl rofl.

* I'm actually in The Fatality, and was in Neonic before. Go have a look at Neonic's players and their ratings, I left the guild due to my ****ty internet and horrible latency.

* My gems range from green to epic, and I cba to spend 50g to gain 2-4 attack power. Thats just stupid imo.

* I was fully enchanted, but you will see that I bought two new PVP pieces, the boots and the gloves from S3. I have not been able to log into WoW and stay connected for more than 20 mins for the past week. Makes enchanting and doing anything in WoW kinda difficult.

* Rofl, my boots aren't even displaying due to some armory bug.

* Reputation my ass, look at the PVP factions and you will see I'm exalted with all of them.

PVP <- Player vs Player you fckin dumbass.

Now lets see your char, and it better be fully enchanted and full T6.
