Life through a curve ball, money will be spent elsewhere, geyser just burst - and want to replace it with a solar geyser.

I was working around R50k

Yeh, a small car might fit - but then the garage door won't open. Its more for a trailer.
I had a galvanized gate made with nutec. Gate is 7m long and 1.8m high. I paid R19.5k, including painting and installation. This was without a motor.

My centurion D5 gate motor which is about 16 years old is on its way out.

I was thinking of buying the centurion D5 Evo gate motor as one can simply switch out the motor and use the existing anti theft brackets, base plate etc

Is the centurion D5 Evo gate motor reliable?

Fit one and let us know. We'll wait.

I just had to replace a Centurion D5 motor at one of my places recently. Total cost came to R8250.
Bit much but it is what it is.

Edit: This included an anti-theft bracket.

It's a rental place. If it was for me I would have considered the Smart one. However, I think its easier to make a normal D5 smart instead of buying the smart model.

Took a plunge and bought a replacement motor today.

Still to fit it on.

I could let you know in about 15 years time if we are both still around, put a reminder for 13 September 2038

Need to paint the house outside. Need some advise / recommendation regarding my paint choice.

Will most likely be using one of those three
Plascon micatex
Dulux weatherguard
Duram armorguard

Thanks.
So all 3 of your choice are rough textured paints.
Great for haircrack hiding, but poor spread rate and attracts dirt.

Is the current paint a textured paint?

Yes. Very.

Yes it is textured. Suspect it is a Duram product. (saw the buckets when we moved in).
Would consider a sheen finish if better.

Wall is also slightly textured. Best description would be - painted with cement sludge.

Just double check the gap between the rack and gear wheel. Critical for long life. But I guess 17 years probably means it was properly done. Unless something changes with the replacement (wear on the wheels could also cause a lower running gate).

Insurance for the geyser?
Ask the installer/insurance if you can pay the difference to upgrade to a solar unit?

Yeh - going through insurance, insisting on using my own plumber (just as well, insurance said due to backlog they can only assist next week).

The plumber actually recommend I don't go solar, he says there isn't going to be much to gain since I have a heatpump.

Yeah, and if you already have inverter, etc rather throw the money on more solar panels (difference between solar geyser and normal geyser) so that the whole house benefits and you can still run your heavy draw geyser element.

OK WARNING! you CANNOT over coat a stretchable paint (textured paints are stretchable) with a paint that has less stretch.

So, you have two choices:
1. Repaint with textured paint.

2. Power wash and prep the walls. Then paint the walls with a proper Plaster Primer.
Then you can paint with a Sheen Acrylic...

Sort of home improvement, whats the consensus on Carrier air conditioners?
No experience with them, have seen them installed in big places. Should be decent. Have you gotten prices yet?
Look at Midea and other options as well.
