I built a brick braai at my previous house, with a suspended grid for the coals (1 brick height above the bottom bricks). The bottom of the braai would still get hot so that I could feel it from underneath. This is not good for the cement (I used lintels as well, and the heat is worse for those). So I added a loose layer of facebricks (with the holes in the middle) just standing on top of the base. Only the front row were cemented in to prevent them falling out, and this worked very well. No heat coming through the bottom of the braai anymore. The ash gets in between the loose bricks over time so I just removed and cleaned them once in a while.

Yeah thats why I put the layer of bricks on the lintels as well so it wouldnt be an issue.

Not quite home improvements - but- bought the kids a pool slide with hosepipe connector.

I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a pump that'd be able to pull water from the pool - and up to the connector, it doesn't need much water, just a trickle - don't want to run it off the tap the whole time.

I was thinking some sort of small submersible pump I could somehow hook up to a solar panel (I have 100w camping one), I also don't really want 220v near the pool. :D

Surely any type of pond/ water feature pump that can do 2m+ of head will work just fine?
Only downside is most of them are 220V

This seems like a reasonable solar option, can do 5M static lift

Hi Guys

Looking to replace external door that is not too expensive, who has good prices atm and does installation too. need a few internal door replacements and fitting too.

Also need to pave front area, about 50m2. any recommendations and good pricing in the cape. will have to do paving in some areas at the back as the above ground pool is going up too and the ground needs to be compacted to level the area

thatches are siff anyway hopefully the fire can do him a favour :p (joking)

I eventually took my thatch down and replaced it with a fairly basic lean to style roof with steel and some tinted panels.

The area is so much lighter and it isn't always constantly dusty anymore.

@Snyper564 : - Did Secu door do your door installation?

If so , how much mess /dust gets created when they do the swapout?

Was told to remove curtains and stuff closest to doors, but now wondering if I need to cover up all electronics etc to protect them from the dust etc.

They coming on Wednesday

Yeah they did we moved everything 5m away and things on the otherside of the room got dust on. Try cover as much as possible

They work as clean as they can but that micro dust gets everywhere

Thanks for the reply, will be sure remove all curtains and find the bedsheets for non moveables!
 
Quick question. Have to repaint my daughters room. Would like to sand it down a little bit before painting and fixing some minor cracks.

Do I really have to sand through? Or can I go primer and just paint with a new colour + polyfilla before for the minor cracks?

Recommendations for a dry-wall person in JHB would be appreciated if anyone has.

No need to sand down, as long as walls are clean.

Once prep work is done paint with plaster primer before recoating.

scratch any loose stuff off, clean with sugar soap, allow to dry, paint
