I'm looking at getting one of the following devices in the picture below but I want to use cell c and Telkom mobile SIM cards in them will
They work on lte and 3G

I'm not personally familiar with the new Vodafone ZTE offering. It does seem they aren't doing the Huawei B593 or successors anymore.

First, a word or 6 of genuine thanks : Like many others, I'm on the verge of investing in a B593 for LTE and (again, like many others) I'm finding this thread, and your posts in particular, incredibly useful. I especially appreciate your meticulous research and practical approach. This thread is a gem - thanks for sharing your experience !!
Now a question : relating to the two quotes above, I gather you've had (at least) 3 different 593's : your original one (Telkom Mobile, TDD only), then a replacement, and now a B593u-12 (FDD only). What are (or were) the exact B593 variants that you owned, and where did you source them ? I assume that the first two might have been B593u-91's sourced from TM and that the latter one is a B593u-12 from ... ?
Although no-one has yet confirmed it with a physical unit, it seems pretty certain (from manual extracts posted) that the B593s-82 is a TDD/FDD combo unit, just with no provision for 3G/2G fallback.
At the moment it seems that when buying a B593, one has to choose between the following :
* Ability to do TDD and FDD LTE (giving a choice of network operators) but with no 3G/2G fallback, as with the B593s-82
* LTE with 3G/2G fallback facility, but locked to one type of network, as with B593u-12 (FDD only)
Your point yesterday about the dubious benefit of 3G/2G fallback is well-taken.

I've obtained a Huawei B593u-12 so now I can use Vodacom, MTN and Cell C for LTE too.Right now I'm using MTN LTE to type this. As previously hinted, it is a lot snappier than Telkom LTE even while coming from the same tower. Upload speed is also more than double TM.

It appears that there is now also a B593s-22 variant which seems to be an upgraded version of the B593u-12.

I bought my router from Edgars, it's only a saving of R200 if I recall correctly as Telkom Mobile/Telkom Direct stores sale the identical package for R2200.
If you do proceed to buy this router at Edgars it will only operate on Telkom MobilerLTE as other networks use a different frequency for their LTE.
*There is an upgrade variant coming later this year or next year - only issue I am finding on this router lack of support from supplies in the country they revert me back to TM. I have noted down various bugs on this specific router model - hopefully they do get fixed and address. Lack of information is available on the routher Huawei 593-601* - It's your funeral if you do purchase the router but before you become compulsive - Request that Telkom Mobile come do a site inspection to see if you able to receive Telkom Mobile LTE, also check their coverage page and if you covered and get terrible LTE services - they sometimes do install an antenna but can take 4 weeks.

as I have read in a article that TM will stay on 2300 for LTE.
Would be nice if TM add 42Mbps on 3G and 150/50Mbps on 4G

Edgars Sub model B593-601(LTE ONLY WORKS ON TELKOM MOBILE), good luck finding information on that router. Under the impression it was designed for the South African market.
As far as I know regarding new specs on a future model it is already out there and a network provider are testing the model out. 300 meg download speed apparently and Telkom Mobile do use another in house version.
Good luck finding a base station that can give you that output! I haven't come across anything, only ADSL VDSL 40 megs

...the HUAWEI B593S-601 could support Band 3/7/40 (FDD 1800/2600MHz & TDD 2300MHz)
If true, that means the the 601 variant will support Telkom as well as MTN and Vodacom LTE.
(Both the Huawei E5776s and Huawei E3276s also have 601 variants and these support FDD 1800/2600MHz & TDD 2300MHz)

Indeed...I have the -601, and works with both my MTN sim card and Telkom Mobile. 4G and similar speeds on both!

I was asking about the Edgars model as I have notice that stock availability is just as big problem as the sub-models itself.
However so far I have decided to stay with Telkom Mobile, so I am looking for the model covering 3G as well. I was however hoping for a better/upgraded "Router" model.
The reason for my decision is based on my understanding and previous experience re: Speed + cost
1. Telkom is using 2300 on LTE (according to technical reading 2300 is the best for what is coming in LTE)
2. Telkom is the cheapest in prepaid (I have checked all network prepaid prices and none compare to TM)
3. 3G are sold all over with cheaper sticks, so that means the 3G speed will still be available for many years to come. (And with that hopefully improved 3G speed)
If my understanding is wrong, please help as I am buying as soon as I find stock.

If you are in Johannesburg - lots of Edgars Mobile branches do have stock(Phone before you go), The Glen, South Gate, Maponya Mall, East Rand Mall.

Yes, I've personally owned three units. I still own two of the three. The models you've guessed are correct. The B593u-12 was a Vodafone branded unit I purchased off this very forum (second hand).
I'd be interested to see peoples' choices going forward. I do hope they continue to post here.
RichardG, can you please confirm? If it's true I will be getting one of these shortly. I'd love to supplement my Telkom Mobile LTE with Afrihost LTE.
