The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

has anyone managed to successfully update"CWMP Update
To upgrade CPE Software by CWMP, please click CWMP Update button " on their router! My router just says downloading and nothing ever happens, can wait an hour!

Is there actually an update or is it by a 3rd party

Hi All

Just wanted to confirm if the following router will work on Telkom LTE network:

Huawei B593 100Mbps 4G TDD LTE Router (B593u-91)

4G LTE-TDD 2600MHz & 2300MHz (Band 38 & 40)
3G UMTS/WCDMA/DC-HSPA+ 900/2100Mhz
2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz

Thanks

There is a new B593s-82 modem routers available that claim to work on all networks here. Is this true? The units will work on:

Voda/Mtn/Cellc LTE/4G FDD 1800mhz

Telkom Mobile LTE/4G TDD 2300hmhz

Mine always says "firmware up to date".

Yes, that's the correct model for Telkom LTE 2300MHz. Note it won't work on MTN, Vodacom or Cell C LTE.

We're waiting for confirmation by anyone who buys one.

If true, I will switch back to LPDA antennas since these are the only ones that support all the LTE bands.

Not Cell C. Cell C LTE is 2100 Mhz

Also, according to the specs, the B593s-82 does not have any 3g or 2g support.

Oops, my bad. Seems for every model they bring out, there is a catch. There won't ever be a perfect model. Removing 3G support is ridiculous.

Best so far is the Huawei B880-73 which does support all SA LTE bands as well as full 3g and 2g support.

It's quite an ugly device though. I guess looks aren't everything. :p

Unfortunately not! This works with Telkom Mobile LTE only!

HUAWEI B593s-82: TDD 2300/2600MHz - Rather go directly to Edgars/cna and purchase the router outright for R1999 if u intend making use of Telkom LTE only! If it's 3G then this router will work on all networks

Sorry, but you are wrong. Here is a document from the Huawei site giving the specs of the HUAWEI B593s-82. Quote from this document says:

The main features of B593s-82 are listed as follows:
The B593s-82 supports LTE TDD Band 40(2300MHz)/Band 38(2600MHz)
LTE FDD Band 20(DD800MHz)/Band3(1800MHz)/Band 7(2600MHz).

So it will support MTN, Telkom and Vodacom LTE networks (not Cell C), but not any 3g or 2g.

I still wouldn't recommend purchase the router as yet as new models will be in the market soon & faster routers. Just not sure if it is this year or the following year. If not mistaken Vodacom do sale those routers

Maybe waiting is an option...prices should come down

Nope, they sold them. Most people hopped off the gravy train as soon as it stopped. Still irate that I got declined for the trial, especially given my results.

Same here! I always thought you were 1 of them that took part as you know way too much about the product.

That explains why so many routers were advertised in the classifieds/junkmail/gumtree.

Here is another supplier of Mobile Antennas:

The full quote would've illustrated your point better, I think:

The main features of B593s-82 are listed as follows:
*Support network environments. The B593s-82 supports LTE TDD Band 40(2300MHz)/Band 38(2600MHz); LTE FDD Band 20(DD800MHz)/Band 3(1800MHz)/Band 7(2600MHz).
*High speed experience. TDD supports maximum throughput of 68 Mbit/s in the downlink and 17 Mbit/s in the uplink. FDD supports maximum throughput of 100 Mbit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink

The notes on maximum throughout are a bit worrying. Only 68Mbps for Telkom Mobile when some customers will attain > 100Mbps?

The B593s-82 is a Category 3 LTE device. Max TDD speed for LTE Cat3 is 68 Mbps (100 Mbps for FDD). I think most B593 routers are Cat3, but some versions may be Cat4. You need to check the specs. Max speeds for Cat4 are 116 Mbps for TDD and 150 Mbps for FDD. So I suppose in theory Telkom LTE speeds can be > 100 Mbps for Cat4 devices (Telkom LTE uses 2300 TDD band).
