The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

Hi I am a new MTN Subscriber. I received a B593u-12 router. I returned it yesterday because I lose connection every five minutes. I have just installed the replacement device and I experience the same problem. Just registering on this site was problematic.

I also went to purchase a poynting antenna, A-XPOL-0002 but I have not yet installed it.

I don't think its the signal because the router shows 3 bars the only problem is that that mode light just stays constant green and after about 5 minutes of refreshing a webpage or in the end restarting the router the connectivity is restored.

I stay in Midrand. My Vodacom signal on my cellphone is fine and my former Neotel signal was not too bad.

RichardG, can you please confirm? If it's true I will be getting one of these shortly. I'd love to supplement my Telkom Mobile LTE with Afrihost LTE.

Edit: Thanks Biggles190. It seems the B593-601 from Edgar's Mobile is the silver bullet.

I've phoned Edgars Clearwater Mall (out of stock), Westgate (clueless and unhelpful), Krugersdorp (unconfirmed, their listed number doesn't exist) and Randburg (no stock yet).

Seems this little 601 bugger is going to be a needle in a haystack.

RichardG - any chance of picking one up for me? I'd really appreciate it. I'm not on that side of town and don't want to face out of stock disappointments.

HUAWEI B593s-601: FDD 1800/2600MHz & TDD 2300MHz (Cat4?)
So the 601 supports the 1800 frequency band:D

That is so awesome, has anybody tried this on Voda or MTN LTE as yet gents, using mine exclusively with Telkom Mobile.

Azi or 1geoff99 if you guys can confirm this it would be appreciated.

I will confirm tomorrow - Afrihost need to provision the sim card to work on LTE, not sure on the ETA!

Once done will post my findings - if the router model works on MTN LTE(Afrihost)

Sorry for not responding sooner was away..

I can pick up one for you if they still have stock available at The Glen or Southgate Mall or Eastrand mall. They not so popular in my area(I think). Each store only received like 3 routers.

Going to try this tomorrow as the SIM CARD from afrihost needs to be provision to work on LTE! If the results are positive then will post feedback immediately.

I was under the impression that MTN/VODAC were using a different frequency for LTE

I can't read through this entire thread, so can anybody tell me if they managed to make use of the telephone ports on the back?

I had planned to but my VoIP phones had all the settings on the phone - only needed to use a LAN port.

Make sure you have a 128K LTE sim from Afrihost. The agent will tell you all sims are LTE capable but if it is not written LTE, it is not!

Hi

I have been struggling to get anything more than 1.3mb at my home in Lonehill,Johannesburg. I want to try the Telkom LTE however i just fall out of the radius. Does anybody know of a company/person who can come out and test the signal at my house and make a recommendation for the best provider?

Pity you're not closer else I could signal test all the providers for you. The coverage maps are inaccurate so no worries there. As long as you aren't in the middle of *no* LTE coverage ie. some LTE around you in your area.

Thank you for the heads up! Already do have a 128 K LTE SIM from Afrihost! Placed an order recently with them and never requested for an LTE SIM card but they still sent 1, saved me time and effort!

On Telkom Mobile(LTE) network coverage map! How far are you away from the PINK area. It is possible to get LTE but then your router will have to be placed somewhere where it gets excellent/acceptable signal. Alternatively have you contacted Telkom Mobile to send over a technician to do testing on the signal.. If you have coverage, if not mistaken you can buy the device directly from the technician*they charge your credit card*.

Are you thinking of using Telkom Mobile LTE on prepaid or postpaid!

I agree fully with Azimuth, their coverage map will display you have signal but that isn't normally the case! Just viewed my coverage map and it seems there is another LTE tower in the area.

Sometimes I wish we had access to their dashboard which shows exactly where all the LTE base station are in your area.

Operational on all LTE networks Router B593s-601 (Routher available at Edgars / CNA mobile), happy hunting these bad boys :)

I was always under the impression this router would never pick up LTE reception from other network operators but after doing doing a manual network search, happy to report back that you are able to use VODACOM / MTN / CELL C(Seems like CELL C - PROVISION card)/, Telkom Moble LTE on this router.

After asking afrihost to provision LTE(24 hour turnaround time), LTE is operational on this router.

Sweet, very good to see. I will PM you regarding purchase of one of these.

Today I actually drove to a store. I started at CNA where a helpful clerk did a query on their Oracle stock management system. I checked all CNA's in the country and the news was bleak. I think in total less than 30 units were available to be sold. This over the past 2 months. Cresta and Westgate CNA showed 1 unit in stock but when checking with Westgate, the unit had been sold. Cresta's unit was damaged stock. Sigh.

I noted a couple units in stock at the following CNAs: Benoni, Eastgate, Tygervalley, Pavillion and Gateway.

If you get a B593s-601, count yourself lucky. They are as rare as hen's teeth.
