The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

Ah yes, the little Poynting LTE omni. Since I have perfect LOS I'm not going to touch an omni. I'm glad to hear you had such great success with it.

Don't you want to share your setup here? :)

Please also post your LTE speed tests here.

It's not a directional antenna? Bugger....must improve my setup then!

Will share my setups and speeds soon!

I still don't see the hype of installing an antenna if the latency won't improve.

Speeds have improved drastically and the signal as well but still there is a lot still to be desired.

*Under the impression Azimuth has one of the best base stations ever* - I cannot even achieve speeds like him at my home :(

I think I will go and do a photo shoot of the tower this weekend, just to torment you. :p

IP to Mac address

Hi,

Does anyone know if its possible to allocate an IP address to a specific MAC address on these routers using the normal HTTP interface?

BTW, thanks for this thread, its been extremely useful for me.

IP address reservation? Should be standard but I'm not sure offhand. It's always been available on Netgear ADSL routers. I'll have to double check the B593.

Thanks, that would be awesome, cause my current B660 doesnt allow me to do that, unless im missing something.

I just scanned through 61 pages of the B593 manual. No mention of IP Address Reservation. I will have to login and double check tonight.

If you worried about security, creating 8 SSID on the router and allowing 1 session or alternatively, whitelist the mac address.

Example SSID: WIFI1(MAIN COMPUTER), WIFI2(notebook), WIFI3(tablet),WIFI4(smartphone),WIFI5,WIFI6

You can also change the IP range of the router only, not sure if you can assign on each Session1 - 8 a unique IP address.

Router is in Johannesburg.

Done :)

Thank you for sharing the experiences you had with the Poynting range.
I was somewhat apprehensive about the improvement that I could expect, but it was money well spent IMHO.

Hmm just checked the back of my 593. It is indeed a 601 variant. I received this from TM when i took out a 50gb bundle with them.

Going to test this with an MTN/Afrihost and Vodascum sim.

hi guys! i got my router from edgars in cape town this morning due the fact that i have been out of town for meetings etc. i immediately assembled mine and switched it on. i must say im very impressed with the router. like i said in my previous post i had already had good speed (between 5 and 7 megabits per second) but my complaint was it seemed network was unstable becoz router kept disconnecting. with the b593 i got up to 57megabits per second so already a huge improvement and this is only with the two paddle antennas hey. so far im not experiencing issues with being disconnected. and to top it off i got a sim with 200mb data per month for 12 months. all in all a very good deal

Sorry Rich, seems like there are a lot of people in the 50 Club now. :p
