The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

Hi all,

As promised herewith my test results from the past weekend.

Very happy with the device as I am also able to make voice/fax calls using airtime on sim card.
(Many ppl told me this is not possible only VOIP calls, well I tested it works fine).
Speed not that great yet, spoke to a consultant at Telkom today placing a service call.
According to the consultant Telkom speed should be (upto) 90Mbps download and 25Mbps upload (in perfect conditions). I get full signal.
The unit include 2 x Ice cream stick antennas and it make no difference with or without in my case.

Should anyone be interested in one of these I have only a few left. Icasa Approved local stock. Std. Warranty.

Getting almost exactly the same readings as you (Speedtest and RS reads) with 4 bars. Might look into getting one of these to improve the connection. Its not bad but knowing one can get better speeds always makes one want more

Whereabouts are you might i ask?

Excellent signal! Much better than me, it's like the base station is sitting right next door to you or you have line of sign to the base station.

I am also experiencing the same issue whereby the speed is capped at a certain speed example 23 mbps max download and upload 8meg and have run multiple speedtest during the morning,afternoon and evening doesn't matter what you do.

Where area are you from ?

Are you on contract or prepaid ?

The worst case scenario could be that we have a faulty router.

Highly doubt an Antenna will help to increase speeds! I have an antenna and to be honest without the antenna I get the same speeds! Clearly the base station he connects 2 A) could be congested or B) Maximum Speed is capped at 30 meg. or C) We both have faulty hardware cause I am getting roughly the same speed as him

Hey, can anyone tell me if I can use this device with an adsl connection? I love the speeds I'm getting with LTE, but the cost isn't justifiable so I have gotten an adsl account with Afrihost. I have plugged the adsl line into the router, but it doesn't pick it up at all and the indicator light for that port doesn't light up or anything. In the router setting I don't see any options pertaining to what I'm looking for. I'm hoping I don't have to go out and spend cash on another device. Any help would be appreciated.
 
It is purely a cellular device, there is no support for RJ11 and ADSL. I don't know where you plugged in the telephone line lol.
 
Sorry bud, those are for VoIP phone support, not an actual Telkom line.

Hi, I am in the Germiston area - less than 500m away from the tower (line of sight)
I don't think an antenna will improve on your speed, maybe signal but 4 out of 5 is also good.
Try to borrow one before buying or buy one with a return option.
Also remember signal loss on lenght of cable... poynting don't mention that as they want to sell.

Bingo very close to the tower (Germiston area) and line of sight and on Telkom Mobile prepaid.

The speed is a Telkom limitation for whatever the reason is, still waiting on Telkom to call back

No the units are not faulty - Don't worry - I have tested and setup a few units for my clients in our office
and they all rate the same in speed and signal.

A) could be congested or (Don't think so as I have done test all around the clock)
B) Maximum Speed is capped at 30 meg (POSSIBLE)

Still await call from Telkom Mobile, will update as I hear anything.

Hello TheViking,

As Azimuth said the device works only on cell networks not Telkom landlines.
Depending on the model you have... (most models do have 1 or 2 RJ11 ports)
As said before the unit do not work on landlines however you can plug in a normal lanline phone (device) into these RJ11 ports to make phone calls.
Also note that on the B593s-601 (I can not speak for the other models) you can make cellular calls and (VOIP calls if setup in Router GUI Setup.)

Have you setup and use your VOIP function yet, if so please share settings. I would love to try it out.
How much data is a avg./p.minute call taking?

This is the route I went. (All the answers to your questions are in that thread)

The handsets manage the VoIP settings so the VoIP support on the B593 is redundant to me. One essentially needs cheap, fixed line handsets that plug in to the B593 to use the VoIP menu - but I haven't seen handsets like that. I also wanted a proper DECT system that had wireless handsets one could use all over the property, so fixed line would never do.

I think all the VoIP DECT phones handle the VoIP settings onboard. (VoIP line, username, password, proxy, DTMF mode)

Halfway reading, interesting... Will certainly go that route as well.
But as I know myself will first do another ton of reading before I buy.

Edit: on second though I will have to do a few tons of reading b4 buying into VoIP

Hello RichardG,

Sadly we don't have the buying power of the Edcon group, as it is guys like them that mess up the RRP. I do however wonder if they will get stock again at that price as it was a special running.
And of course we all know the original price of the B593 was R4499.00.

Anyway best I can do for you (if interested) via this thread is R2600.00 while stock is available as I sell for R2799.
