Took mine on the package with 25+25 for R3299, returned the first router as it was faulty and again received the 601.

I was actually going to buy another one capable of LTE on the other three networks before Richard indicated it works on all of them.:)
 
Hmm, I last bought for R4,099. R3,299 sounds good. I'll go try my luck. Thanks bud!
 
Yes, that's correct. So the same prices are still applicable it seems. Now just to see if a 601 model is attainable.
 
Definitely attainable if you willing to drive to the south of Johannesurg, with etolls+petrol it isn't worth the effort.

Edgars branches that should have stock available: The Glen, SouthGate Mall & Mopanyi mall. They did have a display.
 
I saw the B593 on display at Edgars Northgate on Wednesday. No sure which model though...

huawei b593 from edgars

Hi! excuse me if i sound a little clueless! i saw a huawei b593-601 router at edgars in cape town central. i approached a sales consultant and she confirmed they do have stock.
My question to those of u that bought this one from edgars, do u know what comes in the box? I want to know if the two stubby internal antennas are included in the box? i was gonna buy one on the internetfor same price but its in jhb and has to be couried to me which is really risky to me because people can easily create fake web sites and run away with your hard earned cash.
I have a vodafone r208 wifi router but i found its not very good on wifi my laptop struggle to pick it up. it picks up my blackberry phone much easier so i have been using the phone as a wifi hotspot to connect to internet.
Im using telkom mobile and i fall in the lte coverage area.

Uh oh. I hope I'm just blind because it seems my 601 is network locked. There is no way I can see of changing network selection to manual. What a darn waste of money...

Edit1: okay I was mistaken, it is unlocked and one can manually scan for other networks. :)

Edit2: Yes! It's working like a dream. My one Voda SIM led me off the beaten track as it is obviously broken (prepaid, unable to register 3G or LTE). My contact Voda SIM however worked properly with everything on Auto - no manual network scanning.

Geez, I was sweating for a bit there...:p

This is going to be super cool. I can use Telkom Mobile for most of the month then hop over to unused Voda data I may still have. Sweet!

My thanks to the brave B593 warriors who informed us about the -601 model. Salute!

It should come with the paddle antennas. My last two did (-91 and -601 models).

You'll have to decide about the risk but all I can tell you is that there aren't many units left at Edgars and CNA nationally.
 
ok thanks im going on monday morning 1st thing. it seems edgars in adderley street cape town has a whole bunch of them in stock.the sales consultant will keep one aside for me should they sell all 13 of them 2morrow. the guy who sells on bid or buy and on gumtree dont include the paddle antennas. that was the other reason i decided not to buy from him.

Firstly, thanks for all your info on this thread and the very informative info regarding your LTE experiences.
It has certainly helped me plenty. You are an LTE giant/legend !

Secondly, the 601 variant of the B593 router does not support the 2100Mhz frequency and one will not be able to connect to Cell C's LTE network when it becomes commercially available, as I understand they are/will use the 2100Mhz band. Is this correct ?
 
Indeed, the golden -601 model has a catch. :( I don't know why there must always be *something*.

You will need the -12 or -22 model. PM me if you are looking for a -12. ;)

So I spent the balance of the weekend with my -601 working up a sweat and noticed quite a few differences:

- Visually, it is different. Most of the design features are the same as are the dimensions. However, the middle part is a light grey compare to the dark blue on the other B593 models. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it but the new light grey plastic is much softer than the blue plastic. The SIM slot seems a bit flimsy.
- The activity light has a very different pulse pattern; the pulse indicates Internet activity and has always been like a strobe light. The -601 has a very steady and much slower pulse.
- The user interface has been completely rewritten and is very pleasing to the eye. This brings about a host of very handy changes such as the antenna status on the home page.
- The IP address is hidden and one is always redirected to 'homerouter.cpe'.
- There's a manual antenna settings menu. No need to find some elusive Scandinavian firmware on the net; you can now choose internal vs external antenna.
- And of course, FDD and TDD LTE support. I personally tested Telkom Mobile and Vodacom; everything left on Auto, no manual settings applied.

The -601 means I'm definitely going back to using my LPDA antennas. It's a pity there isn't a an XPOL directional antenna that covers the whole LTE spectrum. :(

Edit: the XPOL-0002-v2, yet to come to SA, will cover 650MHz to 2700MHz. :)

Well... I got the Poynting XPOL-0001 connected to my -601. Went from 2 bars to 4 bars, and ±20Mbits/sec to 40Mbits/sec download speed, and much more stable. Works with MTN and Telkom. This antenna covers 1710-2700 MHz - so most of the networks, right? The down side is that the gain is only 2.5 dBi.

I live about 1 km from the cell tower that covers both MTN and Telkom. At the moment there's some trees between the antenna and the tower. Tested it with direct line of sight - 5 bars, ±70 Mbits/sec download speed! Unfortunately this set up will need some effort to make permanent.
 
Ah yes, the little Poynting LTE omni. Since I have perfect LOS I'm not going to touch an omni. I'm glad to hear you had such great success with it.

Don't you want to share your setup here? :)
