The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

You have 14 days to cancel, no questions asked. This is on the ad. I would push for a refund ASAP. You're probably better off pursuing MTN LTE and my bet is that it's already widespread in Bloem.

It is expected, as TM do not use DC HSPA+ (42Mbps), just single carrier 21Mbps. This allows Vodacom claim to be the fastest 3G network, but it takes twice of bandwith, so more users come, your speeds will decrease much quicker. TM is focusing instead on fast LTE deployment. They recently upgraded tower in my location, quite rural area on the border of city.
 
I've obtained a Huawei B593u-12 so now I can use Vodacom, MTN and Cell C for LTE too. ;) Right now I'm using MTN LTE to type this. As previously hinted, it is a lot snappier than Telkom LTE even while coming from the same tower. Upload speed is also more than double TM.
 
Hesitant to paste this, but have to....password for router went missing...perhaps I wrote it down and paper went missing, or I thought I would remember, and now I can't. Tried the last 2 hours various combinations and permutations of possible passwords I might have considered. No success, from there this post.

Any thoughts????? Please!!!!
 
Simply reset it? While it is turned on, use a toothpick to depress the reset button between the WLAN and WPS rocker switch. Hold in for 10-20 seconds. Now you'll be able to use 'admin' as your password again.

Anyone have any idea of the wifi coverage you would expect to get from this modem B593 and the B683 in meters in a home?
 
It all depends on you really. I say this because I don't accept 1 bar signal anywhere. In a 4 bedroom house with a long L-shaped passage and lots of walls, it gives 85% coverage. Key is central location of the unit in your home.
 
I actually got 5 bars of signal without the external antennas, I was really chuffed.
 
Thanks for the replies, if the signal is not strong enough in certain areas of the house, would a wifi signal extender, 1 of those that you plug into a wall socket work in increasing coverage?

For sure. I had 3*Huawei WS322 in different rooms before upgrading to Ubiquiti Unifi.
 
Telkom Mobile. I know the network is not utilized atm.

What can the usb ports on the modem be used for? connecting to printers, hard drives?

and is it possible to allocate bandwidth allowances to each device that connects to the modem?
 
Correct, the USB ports are for hard drives and printers.

For bandwidth allocation, you cannot do that with the B593. You'll need to use Ubiquiti Unifi - as one example.
 
Newbie Alert

HUAWEI B593u-12: LTE FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz
HUAWEI B593s-82: TDD 2300/2600MHz
HUAWEI B593u-91: LTE TDD 2300/2600MHz

I am assuming the second 2 models will work on TM network? LTE on 2300MHz.
Then I guess this wont work on Vodacom or MTN?
I am new to this thing.

Correct, the first model you listed is the Vodafone /MTN Sh@relink version of the B593. The last model is Telkom Mobile's. The second model is not available locally that I know of...

MTN and VC LTE uses FDD 1800MHz and hence the first model.
Telkom Mobile LTE uses TDD 2300MHz.

Can you use this (op, lte router) as a AP or is it only 3g/4g sharing? Eg. plug router into and the share dsl.
 
Of course. It has four 10/100 LAN ports. So one either shares the connection with the wireless AP or via the LAN ports.
