Enough said, I lay this to rest as I am sure you now know and understand.....
I notice of using deliberately the same word combination as Azimuth and myself, so I think I do understand. I do appreciate your input, as I want to be a better man. You should be aware of the fact that Azimuth is offering his services to the forumnies and he is unregistered dealer on MyBB, so I treat him differently. He wants to lay this matter to the rest, it is just a business...

Unfortunately for Azimuth active antenna is an emerging technology and in a recent implementations it receives self-tuning facility. It means that in next few years we will see proprietary router/antenna combo's offering which will blow generic antenna (like Poynting) business away.

Trying to not offend anybody, but if it is still not a case, let me know in private.
 
One TB should be recognised. I was thinking of the drive exceeding 2TB and/or formatted with GUID partition.

It cames on, but might be too slow or not properly initialized. Try self-powered USB 2.0 hub, but in some cases it can be problem of recognising the hub. If you have USB Y-cable, you can try to inject power directly to the hard drive.

I dont have a Y-cable. But i do have another self powered hard drive. I will also test with that

For the initialization issue,
I have a hub but it too is not self powered. I am thinking maybe i power the hub from my laptop, plug the hard drive into the hub, and it too will be powered up? if it does power up, then allow the hard drive to initialize on my laptop, and then connect another cable from hub to router. Then disconnect laptop from equation and hope the router powers the hub seamlessly.

^^ might not make any sense at all.

Yip, try another hard drive.
About connection to PC and router, it won't work I am afraid, as USB standard allow only one host (PC or router), even the plugs are designed mechanically such way to not allow such connection.

EDIT: It seems an RSSI of around -55 equals to 5 Bars. Perhaps this has not been mentioned

Your 3G signal is great but your LTE signal is pretty terrible. That's the worst RSRQ (LTE signal quality) I've ever seen.

So far I've tested 5 bars LTE signal to be around -78dBm or better.

I'll hazard a guess that you won't ever see speeds greater than 20Mbps. However, if you venture 500m closer in the general direction of the tower, you could start hitting 60Mbps+ (assuming the base station is 100Mbps capable or LTE Cat 3).

Agreed. Your "raw" signal strength (RSSI) is pretty good, and even your RSRP is not bad, but your signal quality is terrible.
PS: You may find this post helpful in understanding where your current signal parameters lie in the overall scheme of things.

Just to chuck something else into the mix : I've seen a signal with RSSI in the low -50's (-52dBm or so) light up only 4 of the 5 signal bars on the B593s-601, specifically when RSRQ is less than the optimal -6dB. Seems to me that the blue signal bars on the B593 are driven by a more complex combination involving RSRP (and possibly RSRQ) ?

I hadn't read through the thread enough to determine what RSRQ meant. Pretty shocking news

So after slightly repositioning my router and with an RSRQ of -9 my speed settled:

I have yet to experiment with locations that have better LOS or Near LOS

Guess I'll have to import the A-XPOL-0001 and see what sort of improvement I get. Unfortunately line of sight is not an option at my current residence.

Thought you guys might like to see my results on telkom. I have pretty low signal, paddles attached, auto antenna:

Mounting a single poynting OMNI-A0069-V3 outside on a pole, attaching to one sma connector of the B593, leaving the other one as the paddle (I was using CellC 3G before so had the OMNI-A0069-V3 already mounted outside and just took a gamble..)

The signal jumps around a bit but never drops below 4 bars, previously it was 2 or 3 bars.

So pretty happy with the results, considering just a single omni :)

Turns out i was a cable short to even try that. My other hard drive (self powered) works so will run with that for now. Thank you
 
Hey guys. So at the first page in the description i see it says it doesnt support 3g, and now the last page the guys are talking of 3g. So if i upgrade at telkom and get this B593 will it have 3g? And is it worth upgrading to this from a E5330 mifi router? I know one benifit is gettimg lte but im not to sure if my area has lte.so except the lte, is there any other plus points to using this?
 
To be honest I've found the 3G performance on the B593 particularly underwhelming. I've posted about this before but no-one else expressed interest. I wouldn't get it just for 3G, no. There are obviously other reasons to get a B593 of course: upgrade path to LTE, external antenna support, excellent port forwarding support, etc.

just take a look on your ISPs coverage page if your area has LTE

Correct, you need to check it yourself.
Climb on the roof and meassure how your signal improves.
Post RSSI, RSCP and Ecio values, not just number of bars.
 
Any USB 3G modem (using COM port interface) with laptop and MDMA. Huawei modems preferable.
For some HiLink modems or routers log-on to the WEB management page, you can find details of your signal.

If you're prepared to go this route, at least consider the Poynting A-IMOD-0001. It's an all-in-one (but no LTE support for now).

Question was about benefits of external antenna. We don't know anything about 3G signal, it should be starting point to establish how signal improves.

Of course getting LTE device for testing (when available) is an ultimate solution, but can you imagine walking on the roof with B593 rooter powered by 220V mains cord extension? :)
