Hi
It sounds like it is a sim read error of some sorts, as your sim works in other devices. Did you perhaps remove the sim at any time with the router on? That can damage the reader.... Is it a local bought router or is it an imported one? If local, I would take it back and have it swopped out....If it is a import, then maybe it has lost the ability to read all countries simcard....Which B593 is it exactly?

I took the simcard out and tried it on my old router. And there is connection, put the simcard back in and no connection. So its something on the router. I have done a factory reset but still the red light.

Do you *only* use it for Telkom LTE or perhaps MTN/Afrihost or Vodacom? Double check that the correct APN is still being used.
 
i made sure that i didnt remove the sim while the router is on,i've read about it. Its local from telkom the 601s version.

Just for telkom. Telkom customer care gave me a new apn to enter aswell, didnt work.

They took it in for repairs, have to wait up to 3 weeks
 
Hi Guys.

I just want to also add my experience with this router. I got it yesterday and hooked it up at about 4pm. It is damn fast! Speedtest showed 27.54Mbps at first and that was with only 2 bars signal. I then tested later and got 32.25Mbps. Took it upstairs and it got 3/5 Bars signal, speed test 38.60Mbps. Using Telkom Mobile in the Centurion area. I'm very impressed. I will however cruise around the house to see where the better signal is. I think 5 bars signal might even give me more than 50Mbps? What do you guys think?

Glad you're enjoying your B593, krouxsa !

Not that it's only about speed, but ... Yip, it is very quick, even when the signal is not that great. With good signal it really flies.

Check out this thread for an idea of range of speeds people achieve on TM - anywhere up to 80-90 Mbps.

WTF!!! That's insane speeds. Here I thougt that the 38Mbps I got was alot. Okay, no I need to find the telkom tower before I start planting antennas. Any advice?

Is it possible to limit individual wifi users' amount of data?
Like setting a data quota per user?

Any help will be appreciated.

You'll need to use a separate Wi-Fi solution such as Ubiquiti UAP for that. Even then, you can limit bandwidth but not cap users.

Probably more hassle/expense than you want, but you could also look at putting a more functional router between your internet gateway (B593) and your downstream clients. The Mikrotik devices (like this one) that run RouterOS also have those kinds of features.
The RouterOS software itself can also be installed on a PC.

Hey guys

I received my B593 this week. I am having issues with the unit not being able to read my MTN simcard from Afrihost - I am using a micro sim adapter with the sim card, but the unit says that there is no valid USIM inserted in the sim card slot. I have also tested this with my Vodacom micro sim - same result.

Can anyone here let me know whether a micro sim with an adapter is suitable to use in the B593, or should I swap out the sim for a standard sized card? Afrihost said that the micro sim should work fine with an adapter in the B593.

I'm thinking that I might actually have received a faulty unit and should exchange it for a different one.
 
I'm running a telkom mobile micro sim with adapter in mine and there are no such problems.
 
And you didn't, at any point, remove the sim card whilst the unit was powered on ?

I was aware of the fact that you are not supposed to do that since it can damage the sim card reader, so I took care not to do so.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that the mechanism that is supposed to keep the sim card in place seems to be damaged as well - sometimes you have to try multiple times before the sim locks into position. I guess this could be related to the unit not being able to read the sim cards.

I've requested an exchange from the company I bought the router from.
 
Use thin duct tape to fix SIM card in the holder. It will prevent separation inside the socket.
