Some suggestions, responding point-by-point with the same numbers :

  1. Good.
  2. Good. Note that it's the 'Mode' light (the one immediately to the left of the signal bars) that's the significant one to watch. Out of interest, try forcing your unit into 3G mode (green mode light) and see what results you get. Yeah I know you want 4G, but you may find that you have way better signal (and comparable/better speed) on 3G. It's just one diagnostic.
  3. Good. Stick with a LAN cable for testing, unless you are really close to the B593. No sense throwing another variable (Wi-Fi link quality) into the mix while you're testing.
  4. Try tossing the flat whips and using the built-in antennas only (see here for guidance). The built-ins usually match or outperform the flat whips. Also experiment with different B593 locations, orientations and elevations, if you haven't already.
  5. Your signal parameters are not too bad, but not great either. You could probably do better with some effort. As a very rough guide (my opinion), you want to try and improve your signal arrangements until your RSSI is at least -64dBm, your RSRP at least -90dBm, and your RSRQ steady at - 6dB. See here for some guidance on what that all means, but here's a snippet (again, my opinion based on experimentation) :

  6. Some people manage to get station location info out of Telkom, some not. Eyeballing from your roof and doing a neighbourhood drive-around are the best methods, unless you know someone with inside info. Remember this is radio and it helps to have some idea of where and how far away your local base stations are. It becomes even more important if you start looking at directional outdoor external antennas.
For a fixed wireless installation, probably the best thing you can do to improve your reception is to get your antennas outdoors, preferably with some height. For a start, shin up onto your roof with B593 and laptop and see if your reception improves. Have a look here for some inspiration.

Signal is good. I don't think you get better results, it seems there are other problems. But you can drive around before deciding for costly expenses. Get LTE device capable of displaying Cell_ID for testing to make sure you are connecting to the same tower.

If you mean 20Mbps (or even 2Mbps!), I'm pretty sure the answer is still 'No'.
I'm not aware of Telkom throttling LTE users at all, except under very specific conditions on the recent area-specific uncapped LTE promotions. I've also seen some suspicion of throttling for LTE-A users, but that's unconfirmed.
As far as I know, Telkom's capped LTE deals (contract and prepaid) are all still on a "take the data as fast you can manage it" basis. Indeed, that's part of the attraction! :D
I suppose we can expect throttling if ever the user base gets to a point where contention becomes an issue, but so far it's still open season on speed for as long as you can afford the data bill.

A month ago I also had crappy downloads. Since then the Telkom mobile map has changed by me for the better.

Running on 3 bars only.
RSSI (dBm): -69.0
RSRP (dBm): -96.0
RSRQ (dB): -6.0

My current results speed test:

Why is MyBB speed test not showing the correct through put? Vodacom and Telkom give results in the 50Mbps.
 
Trying to connect an external HDD to the USB port.

The HDD is 4TB, not sure of the formatting or patitioning and is self-powered.
Does anyone know what the maximum acceptable size might be, also what is the preferred hard drive format?

You cannot use a USB-powered external HDD with this device, there simply isn't enough current in the USB port to power the HDD. You either have to use an external HDD with its own separate power supply, or use a USB memory stick.

No problems if it is self-powered (meaning having its own power supply). 4TB can be a problem especially if formatted with one GPT partition. 2TB can be a limit in such case. File system should not be an issue, the earlier router support NTFS.

A self-powered external HDD is widely regarded as an external HDD that does NOT have its own power supply, i.e. powered by the USB port.

I bought a similar modem (B583) for my desk at work - I am on MTN and signal SUCKS. However I am nervous leaving at on my desk at night / unattended. What security measures would you recommend?

Depends which asset you want to protect:
- Router from stealing. None - there is no kensington lock
- SIM from stealing? None - anyone with physical access can press remove SIM.
- Accessing your internal network or Internet from your SIM? None - anyone with physical access can plug to the LAN port or even press reset button (for default wireless access).

Hi all!

I am struggling with a little issue that is making me very unhappy.

I recently decided to change to Telkom LTE. Good price, nice speed. However, I have been having an issue with trying to do online gaming.

If my PS3 is connected with the LAN cable, all works well. But if I try to use the wifi, I am unable to get into any matches (I realise wifi gaming is not the smartest thing for speed, but circumstances only allows this option). I can log into PSN, go to the Playstation store and check Youtube, but I cannot get into the actual online games.

I have tried giving my PS3 a static IP, as this seemed to be a suggestion for a router. I have also set my static IP as a DMZ, as I read this might help as well.

Telkom's support is of no use. So I have turned to the experts here.... Hope someone has a solution to my problem

Morning
I am going to try and point you into the correct direction quickly.....My sons had the same problem on the Xbox360 where they sometimes could join games and then sometimes not (LAN & WiFi). My youngest then went to Xbox site and checked which ports the Xbox actually works on. He then went into the router software and enabled those ports and haven't had a game joining issue since.

I hope this helps you but I will find out from him exactly where and how he did it and edit my post a bit later with more details....

Update:- You have to set the ports under port mapping in the router software. Just search for port forwarding for PS3 on google. You will also find the correct port's needed on the Sony site.
