my and the GF's B593 are still performing perfectly - probably best modem/router buy I've ever made - very happy and also that I renewed my Telkom 10+10 @R199 last month

Another way to check : If you have the B593s-601 (can't remember what version you have!), you can also slip your "unknown" 3G/4G MTN SIMcard into the unit and do a manual network search. If there is MTN LTE in your area, it will show up on your network list as "MTN(4G)". If you then try and register but your SIMcard isn't 4G-enabled, it will fail.

Ah, just tried that and got the message "A 4G network is unavailable when you are using a 2G SIM card. Please select another network mode." and when I look at networks available, they all seem to be 3G, so it does not even see the Telkom 4G that I normally use

Quick feedback running on 4 bars signal. Approx. 1km from tower.
Download speeds are bad, approx. 1Mbps down and 3Mbps up?

I making a assumption this is a MTN tower. Using Google maps I'm 800m away from the tower.
My cell phone is on MTN network and I also get 4G signal on this device.
I'm not a happy customer.

I know it will obviously start resulting in decreased response times over the LTE with too many users, but what I need to know is what happens if over 32 users associate to the AP? I dont want it to just die because its also acting as a Switch for other purposes.

Hey HowTo. Welcome to the thread. Sorry, I'm a bit busy these days but other users normally reply.

If you're only 800m from the tower that's "close enough" for maximum speed on CAT3 - which translates to 90Mbps for Telkom Mobile LTE. Distance clearly isn't an issue.

You might be using an overburdened cell tower which is in desperate need of a backhaul upgrade. Or you might have interference problems. Or or or...

Your issues could be resolved by elevation - or maybe even using a different cell tower. This can be achieved by using an outdoor directional antenna.

Whose tower it is, MTN or not, isn't an issue. Usually at a cell site 3-4 providers could be sharing infrastructure.

Hey Chronos. It sounds like you want to use this for a corporate environment? I wouldn't recommend testing out the specified 32-user limit. I'd rather recommend using a Ubiquiti UniFi access point and feeding it from the B593. I was never happy with the Wi-Fi performance on the B593 and that was only for 5 users.

To answer your question directly, no-one here has used all 32 slots and reported back.

Yse, it is software configuration. More clients will be not able to join WiFi network controlled by the access point. This limitation is software related. Access point has to allocate resources for each connected client: configuration data, transmit/receive buffers and many more. Besides, I don't think 32 active users is a practical limit. You will see performance degradation much sooner.

Hello

I am new to the forum and would like to ask a question.

Mtn gives me 3 bars of signal and about 18mbps without antennas, with antenna about 31Mbps, just a pity data costs more with afrihost.

I have just installed a Poynting xpol-02 v2 and have been testing on Telkom mobile, signal has gone from 1 to 3 bars and speed from 4mbps to 15.7mbps, this is on a Huawei B593-601. Telkom tower is about 5km away and I do not have line of site as I sit in a dip.

If I was to install a pair of Lpda -0092 antennas would I still see an improvement in signal and speed? What sort of speed increase could I see with 4 or 5 bars of signal compared to 3 Bars?

I realize this is difficult to answer without actual testing but I was looking more for an idea of what to expect with the signal increase. I need to decide if the extra costs are going to beworth it?

Quick question guys, can one plug in a LAN internet connection in the B593 router and broadcast it hence not making use of the LTE internet on the router? I going to sign up for a contract via level 7 in centurion and their installation don't include a wifi router and since my B593 wifi reach the whole house, I want to make use of it. Is this possible?

I think it depends on the format of the "LAN internet connection" you mention.
If you're going to get a WiFi-less router device from Level 7 (that routes between their WAN on one side, and local LAN port(s) on the other side, then this should be possible, I would think. You would just turn off (ie set to "Disconnect") the LTE modem on the B593 and plug the LAN cable from the Level 7 router into one of the B593's LAN ports. You would then be using the B593 as a plain switch plus WAP, with all four B593 LAN ports and the WAP clients on the same logical network segment. You would just need to make sure that all LAN ports have IP addresses that are on the same subnet, and you would need to identify the LAN port on the Level 7 device as the gateway for external routing. That would effectively make the Level 7 internet gateway available to all B593 LAN and WLAN clients.
Is that what you mean, or am I missing something ?

So im using the b593-601 with telkom lte for gaming, its been running pretty well for a while, but since last week im loosing connection to servers quite alot, my question is, what is the best settings on the router for gaming, like static ip and port fowarding, how do i do that? I cant find any tutorials online

I never "tuned" my B593 for gaming as such, it always just worked well as-is. It's been quite a while since I've gamed online so I can't provide comparable results. What are your signal stats like? Ping tests?

I have had it go up to
33Mb/s down

And ping as above mentioned

Have no ideas what these values are

When port forwarding on the B593 if you want to forward UDP port 10000-20000. you can fill in the remote port range 10000-20000 but on the local port you have to input the exact UDP port and not a range.

what happens if an application open up multiple RTP streams like when using SIP , you get one-way audio if the RTP ports are not open.

Any ideas or advice on how to open a range of UDP ports on the Huawei B593

Not sure which version of B593 you have, but if you mean the B593s-601, then .. Yes, it's a sucky implementation of "bulk" port-forwarding, I agree.
I suspect the firmware on the other versions (like the 'u-12 & 'u-91) is probably much the same in that respect.

I've experimented with a few different syntaxes and approaches but I haven't found a workaround yet.
Fortunately my applications have only needed at most a few ports opened, so it hasn't been too much of an issue to identify which they are and just create multiple forwarding entries. But it is a bit of a kludge, yeah.
