The iPhone 4s availability thread

I've been waiting for 5 weeks for a phone via Nashua Mobile on Vodacom in Gauteng. VC has no ETA on when stock will arrive, but MTN has a surplus. The guy I spoke to eventually said that I *CAN* take a phone from MTN and use on VC, but then I lose the 1 year warranty because *insert some pointless concern about APN's getting mixed up* (totally invalid in my opinion). AFAIK there is no way they can link warranties or anything per network, the warranty lies with Apple.

My feeling is that I've been waiting too long for the smallest slither of proper service, and that I should just take the MTN handset without warranty. It will be covered under my company insurance (I will use it for iOS dev).

MTN have a crappy iPhone deal though. Explain the getting an MTN iPhone and using it on Voda bit please. How do you get the phone in the first place? How does it void the warranty? Might the voiding be circumnavigated by the CPA?

You're going to be paying a lot more on MTN. Or at least getting less for the same money. The voided warranty aspect is nonsense though.

Vodacom World had a few black 16Gb iPhone 4s's today! Grabbed myself one - be quick and early on the 15th, they might have a few more. Just call before you go as not to waste a trip ....

The Nashua Mobile guy said that they could take a phone from the MTN stock, and give it to me on my Vodacom package, but this voids the 1 year warranty VC would normally give me on a handset from them. If something should go wrong, I could still send the phone in to MTN (since they are responsible for it) but I would have to carry any charges that do occur. Only after the 1st year does Nashua's warranty kick in.

I won't actually have an MTN contract, I still get to use my Vodacom iPhone Talk 120, but I have hardware that has been assigned to MTN, without a paid for warranty during the 1st year.

I believe Vodacom check when last a handset was registered on their network before honoring the warranty. If MTN do the same then all you have to do is pop in a pre-paid SIM before you take it in for repairs (providing of course connecting to the network isn't a problem).

Does anyone know when Vodacom is getting iphone 4s stock????? I have been waiting since early Jan to get a phone?! But Mtn has plenty of stock. Getting ridiculous now!

Everytime I call them, they say Vodacom HO says the shipment has arrived but can't tell when the phones are coming.

No idea. I'm also waiting for the call.... Melrose Arch CellularCity.... :o

TBO I'm in no rush. Still loving my 4. May even sell the 4s and get an iPad 3 rather....

SO is due for upgrade. I called a number of stores around Cape Town and none have stock, so she went the call centre route. They also said 2 weeks, but from the posts here I'm hoping for sooner.

Phone arrived today and was ordered on the 10th of Feb!

I think Vodacom upgrade centre is hoarding all the stock. :D

I asked about this, got told they link the stock and warranties on the IMEI number, which would in turn make that there is no way to get around it.

The IMEI number is unique to the phone (has nothing to do with the SIM), so I'm not following that argument.

In any event, If you want Vodacom stock phone the upgrade centre.

Well that is Just BS I have been phoning every day since the 10th asking if they have stock. I do not want to do the upgrade as they reckon I will start to pay for the new contract and not have a phone, and I cant start using the data bundled with it as I have a blackberry...... Vodacom eesh any one at Vodacom upgrade centre ??? can you give me a heads up ??? or should I just chainge my Network provider after 14 years of foolish dedication ???

I can get a iPhone 4s from a friend of mine temporarily (MTN iPhone) if I use this phone to switch to my new contract, can I switch to the contract and use the phone until Vodacom has a 4S in stock for me and then take that phone? Also if hypothetically I can and I do this tomorrow, will the new Vodacom contract only kick in on the 1st of March, allowing me to use my BB for the rest of the month?

They did say that the new contract would only kick on from the 1st March ... so yeah use the BB until month end , pay oustanding fees and then start paying for something you dont have yet .... but if you can have a phone until then then great ..... still think it stinks ..... how does one operator plan so badly ? And how can you put out specials on something you do not even have to offer ??? or do they just offer you something just to see how badly you want it and then only order the required stock ?
