Hi Guys

Some bad news- just dropped my iPhone straight onto its screen and cracked it to high heaven. I managed to add a piece of clear vinyl over the top to stop it from cutting my fingers in the mean time, buts its basically KO.

Any suggestions or references to repair or replace locally.

Thanx in advance

Thats gonna cost you a pretty buck...

Theres no one i know of locally that can fix it unfortunately...

But if you do find someone to do it for you, i suspect it will be no less than $250 (=R1859)

As i dont think you'll find anyone here that does that, alternatively, order a LCD + digitizer off of ebay and have it shipped out here and do it yourself..

Something like this for instance..

Look here for more

Good luck man....

You could also try iFixit

Includes guides and they ship internationally.

Thanx guys for the input.

I have found a local company that claim they can do it, so I will keep you posted on my progress.

No prob but my honest opinion is to get a new iPhone and sell your iPhone for parts, the LCD is the most expensive part of the iPhone and the cost to fix it will be nearly as much as getting a new iphone lol

Nice one :) I didnt click...

But as Dobee said..Might as well buy a new iPhone..

yeah, the $250 standard repair fee they charge in the states is quite steep... and that doesnt cover the screen. so ya, either wait for vodacom or try fixing it yourself?

That's about right, i heard that someone can do it for R1300 - but i'm still waiting to get given his number!

IBACKUP - Backup All Your IPHONE APPS Via Windows OS
What exactly does this app do?

This utility automatically backs up your applications, application data, and your photos.

Then, when you need to restore your iPod touches/iPhones because you really want to use the latest Jailbreak, or WinPwn, you can load up iBackup, and restore all of your apps again. The application is only for firmware 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 iPod touches/iPhones for PC. To use the application download it onto your PC, run the iBackup.msi, install it, and you can either run the program from your desktop, or through your Start Menu. Then when you run it you will see several buttons on the top, click the Backup button to backup your applications, application data and photos. Please read and follow the instructions. Then whenever you want to put all those applications and stuff back onto your ipod click the Restore button and follow the instructions.

for those of you who are sceptical about the 3g iphone (if there are any left!)
Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) revealed that it is the 3G version of the iPhone which it is going to launch in Italy next month.
http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1095

Developers have found an on/off switch to enable 3G in the latest iPhone 2.0 Beta. By default, the preference is hidden, but Chronic Productions claims to have activated it.

and here's something interesting i thought i'd share
AT&T is now listing a second model of the iPhone in its device database called: "iPhone Black".

WalletCards on Your iPhone
If you are tired of carrying around a bunch of membership cards in your wallet, why not scan them into your iPhone?

Apparently, someone has tried this and it works! Scan your membership cards into an iPhone gallery and amazingly enough a barcode reader can scan them...

So instead of writing down the numbers I scanned in the cards -front and back side- and stored them as images on my iPhone.

To test it out I went to the local hardware store and asked the girl behind the counter if she could scan the barcode from my phone. The first look I got was pure amazement. To her the physical card was transformed into a picture on a shiny device. On top of that the barcode was scanned successfully. The result; a slightly confused girl and a happy me.

Hi Guys

Spoke to ifixipods today and "Koos" is doing his first repair this weekend, and mine will be his second.

Not so keen to shell out R2000 to someone who says "dont worry, I have seen the video online". I am still keen to try and repair mine, as both my girlfriend and I have got them and I would like to know that the process is do-able- it will put my mind at ease for next time, and we all know there will be a next time.

More to follow.
