we thought this fixed it but in fact it didnt :(

i still have the problem.. one user reported success using winpwn (look earlier in the thread) , but i tried that and i still get the problem

So it looks like the only solution so far is to buy an MTN sim card :)

Has anyone found an app/setting that will dim the iPhone backlight after a set amount of time as opposed to locking the device and switching off the screen every 5min?

Basically I cant leave it alone for very long (come now - its not just me, right?) so when I am at my desk I would like the screen to dim after like 2min but all I'd need to do to wake it up is tap once somewhere.

Walking around I usually lock it manually and thats that, but top button/swipe every time I fancy a fiddle is too much (especially when youre doing it a hundred times a day!).
Any thoughts?

Have a look here

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1874945

(theres an easier method of installing the extended preferences hack but i wouldnt recommend that as the program isnt very stable..)

Or, install an app called Toggle Backlight which i got off of installer from the MMi repo.. When you open the app it dims your backlight...And when you open it again it will adjust your backlight to the original brightness..

If you need any help let me know ;)

Also: *bump* for SwirlyMMS on CellC - anyone got it working?

Sorry im not on CellC otherwise i coulda helped.. :(

OK let me make it easy for you:

Under categories you will see the following (after you add the roms repo)

SNES Roms - These are for use with the snes4iPhone emulator

GBA Roms - These are for use with the gpSPhone emulator

Genesis Roms - These are for use with the genesis4iPhone emulator

NES Roms - These are for use with the NES emulator

Make sure to install the emulators first before the ROM's

You can find all the emulators on Installer...

Once you have installed the emulator, go to one of the ROM categories above and install the ROM ( Game) that you want..

Afterward, open the emulator you installed and select the game you want to play..

No PC required :)

im soooo friggin annoyed!
sold my 1 iphone last week monday so i can at least get some of the money back before the value drops when the new phones come out.
tuesday i get mugged.
i hate this country. and outsurance.

so tip for all iphone owners - make sure the iphone is specified in your insurance! (and dont use outsurance!) i havent gotten around to specifying everything because of the considerable premium jump i was going to face and now im iphone-less.

tuesday night, just after 9, in pretoria. 2 guys came up to me, both with knives. wallet, watch and iphone. and my jacket.
they even had the nerve to open my wallet in front of me, take my cards and drivers and everything and flicked the empty wallet back into my face.
at least my contacts were backed up in outlook and i wrote down my IMEI so the iphone has been blacklisted. vodacom was quick with that whole procedure, so im happy they didnt get time to make some calls to china or something.

on a lighter side...
i see vodafone signed a contract with apple... any predictions as to when we can expect them to "officially" launch in SA?
i'm putting my money on a nice pre-launch marketing campaign in november and a december release, just before xmas.

This might explain the problem you are having...That site has exceeded their bandwith limit...

This always happens with ROM repos for the iPhone...Ill let you know when theyre back online..

Bummer dude.
Given your recent bad luck I hate to say this but: I honestly don't think the price will drop that much on the 1st gen iPhone.

Fact is that the 3g one is fatter (for the chip) and has been redesigned, I have seen a few 'leaked' shots that seem a little suspect but bottom line is that its gonna take a hell of a design to beat the current one and that on a fatter device et al.

I reckon there will be a lively market for 1st gen iPhone soon.

The only reason that I would upgrade at this stage is for 3G obviously but even then there would have to be a helluva good data plan and obviously the warranty is important.
Without those two things you wont fond me camping in line the day before it is released here ;)

One other thing is: how the frack did 8gb get too small? To be perfectly honest I could do with more - who'da thunk you need over 10gig on a cell phone??? :p

Yeah, they've been offline for a few days now...

I was hoping to download more roms :(

What's great is that you can play these roms on PC as well which IMO is better than playing on the iPhone(too slow)

Hi Guys

Some bad news- just dropped my iPhone straight onto its screen and cracked it to high heaven. I managed to add a piece of clear vinyl over the top to stop it from cutting my fingers in the mean time, buts its basically KO.

Any suggestions or references to repair or replace locally.

Thanx in advance

unlucky man. best bet would be to try find a guy who repairs ipods and ask him if he can fix it. there's a few guys who do repair ipods with genuine parts, so they might be able to sort you out.
no use going to the istore though, i actually had a woman working in one tell me that there is no such a thing as an iphone last month... and there's no way they'll even touch it if you bring it in.

Maybe wait until Vodacom launch it here, they should be able to fix it, and use another phone in the meantime.

I reckon there will be a lively market for 1st gen iPhone soon.

i dont think there will be any 1st gen iphones released in SA, i recall reading on quite a few different sites that the 1st gen iphone's stock is busy drying up and that it's production has been stopped... but those weren't official press releases and only "leaked" information, so you cant really rely on that too much.
either way, there will obviously be a demand for it as it would be cheaper than the 3g model, but given the statement made a while ago with regards to the 2nd gen's expected pricing (16gb $499, 8gb $399) i think it's safe to assume that i wouldnt have been able to get 5K for a 2nd hand iphone after the 2nd gen release ;-)

would be interesting to see how vodacom is going to sell the iphone... im hoping for a nice data package as well... wouldnt mind a 1gb bundle with a free iphone XD

According to one article on the net Apple are making the new iPhone something like 2.5mm thinner?

Thats gonna cost you a pretty buck...

Theres no one i know of locally that can fix it unfortunately...

But if you do find someone to do it for you, i suspect it will be no less than $250 (=R1859)

As i dont think you'll find anyone here that does that, alternatively, order a LCD + digitizer off of ebay and have it shipped out here and do it yourself..

Something like this for instance..

Look here for more

Good luck man....
