seriously, we can what if till the end of time, but in reality, if the phone is that screwed up, i.e, you could not get it into restore or dfu mode yourself, then vodacom probably won't be able to either, that is, get it into any mode that allows them to access the phone, which probably means they won't be able to see the firmware on the phone anyways, ps, here, this particular what if might be a good reason to not replace the boot logos....

LOL, I know, that's why I was so scared last week, cuz the only thing that was showing on my iphone was the pwnapple logo :D So I really didn't know what I'm going to say to Vodacom :o

That's why when I jailbroke it yesterday I kept the apple logo...

Yarik

Remove your sim card, and clean the metal connectors on the simcard itself, this sort of thing can happen when the phone looses physical contact with the sim, you can udnerstand why that would freak out the phone OS

just a suggestion, might do wonders, might do nothing

I tried that on Friday - didn't work. Even put another sim in - still nothing.

Tried searching the net for a similar situation, couldn't find anything similar.

Seems that I'm not the only one who couldn't restore a jailbroken phone - read lots of posts about people struggling to first put it into DFU mode before it worked.

well screw 2.2 ... i cant get anything to work on my 2g phone. (granted i still suck at iphone) ... im going back to 2.1 , cause at least my stuff worked there. (well if that is even possible)

yarikk, switch ur phone off. then hold the home button as u put the usb chord into ur pc. thats how i managed to restore mine to 2.2 after it was giving no signal problems

Thanks - if I ever get problems will do that.

All if fine for now though - got in into DFU mode, restored, jailbroke, happy again :D

Can't happen :D

Dude, my phone was stuck on the pineapple screen and just kept on vibrating the whole time... How more screwed up can you get than that?

And I managed to get it into DFU mode then fresh restore.

That's true... unless you break the sync port then you're screwed.

Is anyone willing to lend me their US itunes account details to download a free app?
pleeeeeez. Desperate.
All the guides to create a free account do not work anymore and it asks for a US credit card. Help please

I'm sure you can still create a US account with an iTunes voucher?

I could sell you one but the exchange rate will make it expensive.

Yeah it will :/. All this just to download a free app. Don't need the account, just once. Anyone willing to lend me their account details? as long as there's no cc info on it. At my wits end here

If you have a SA credit card, create a paypal account. Then log onto Globalitunes.com, generate an address, and buy a voucher using paypal. Worked for me...

Just to download a free app. Don't wanna waste money to download a free app. Thou got a paypal account so gonna try something.

You may want one app now but what about the future? surely there will be more apps you'd like to get including updates, best to get a personal account for good.

Nope, just need this particular free app for a not so techno friend

Edit: I came right :)

Ughhhh, I hate having to upgrade!

Help me please. Using Quickpwn, do I have to first restore, and then run Quickpwn. I followed the iClarified instructions, without restoring first, and it says I have the wrong fw version (on 2.1). So do I first do a normal restore, and then run Quickpwn?

Thx

I had the same situation and then first upgraded via iTunes and then ran QuickPwn - it then jailbroke the phone - This is only for unlocked VC iPhones though - if your phone was locked - do not use this method.

Remember all your 3rd party apps will be gone after the upgrade so make a note of them.
