the annoying thing is, in OS 3.0 Beta 4, tether and mms worked like a dream, full functionality, received from anywhere, data connections were stable, no 2G/3G switch issues...

i don't understand how they went backwards, but i think it has to do with how they tried to prevent users from activating these features so the operator has to activate it for you

Guys MTN MMS and tethering is perfect! no issues at all. Which means it must be a vodacom issue? its not really fair to blame apple for this is it? and some of the same problems we have now we also there during the beta 3.0 phase. Vodacom need to catch a freakin wake up and sort their **** out, and start looking after their customers...

again, not verified, and easily overcome by disabling mms, kind of defeats the purpose though... lol

but i'm glad i caught you on time

don't you have a spare phone at home? pop your sim into a "normal" phone, let it DL all the MMS in waiting. put it back into your iphone and if you stop dropping calls it confirms your theory?

a version of aptbackup that was released just after 3.0 software had a known issue where it replaced one of cydia's repositories with an incorrect link, causing install issues, so, that's where it came from, i've been afraid to use aptbackup ever since

Ahhh... that explains a bit!
Thanks!

+1 after loading the ipcc for MTN everything works fine :p

bex

can I ask you to verify a few things for me on the mtn ipcc?

check mms can send/receive over 3G
check tethering works, just make double sure you can browse, because if the config is wrong, it will sometimes try to connect to the the internet by using the mms apn

i do, another iphone.... lol

thought of this one days ago, and my sony ericsson is on loan to someone who's dog ate her phone, and that actually happened, not a homework excuse... lol

anyone considered going back to bitesms? i thought i'd try, because they claim they support mms functionality, which they do, but, through the phone's own mms handler, which isn't working for me....

I like Bitesms much more - especially because of the sms counter. I have an SMS bundle and its a good way to keep track of it.

Mod Mobile Installation file

Once one has updated to OS 3.0 do we still need to modify Mobile Installation file in order to be able to use hazel nut cracked apps

so, I need some convincing

is BeeJive worth the price, or, better idea to sit and wait for meebo? considering we don't know what meebo's gonna cost?

I'm using BeeJive - bought it as it was released last year (used to use it on my BB too).
With the push now - absolutely AWESOME :D:D:D
Definitely worth the price!! And it's currently on special!!!
Had a few teething problems when the new firmware was released but BeeJive seems to have sorted their servers out :) I have now been online four about 24hrs with AIM, MSN and GoogleTalk - no disconnects and the push is instant.
Loving it!!!
Do yourself a favour and buy it :D

Regarding Meebo, well, can't really compate yet - will definitely check it out when it's launched too

Totally off topic, but I have a deal (steal) for anyone in Durban. Brand new iPhone 3G 8Gb (sealed box) no network lock going for R3500. Anyone interested? If so then PM me.

Have just sent one from my virgin mobile card.

Ah - the other phone - just swap out the cards.

Been waiting 10 minutes now - nothing received yet.

EDIT: Ah - OK - the Virgin MMS was not delivered anyway - maybe later

it's unfortunate, but, with the issues we're seeing with the iphone mms client, i'm going to have to get swirly when 2.1 releases :( this will result in loosing the ability to send business cards though... sucks :(

Just read on twitter:
We just released SwirlyMMS v2.1!! Actually, we submitted it to STE for him to put it up in his repository. It usually does not take long...

Hmm £500 here in uk for the 32gb 3gs..Network locked to o2.

I'll pass thanks..

Must say it's very nippy though and the turn feature in GMaps which uses the magentometer (compass) is awesome!
Definitely not £500 awesome though..maybe if I didn't already have an iPhone then yeah.. But cannot justify the extra costs.

Nice features though that really shouldve been in the iPhone from the start. :(

Wonder if MMS will work over 3g in SA on the 3GS

i did a fresh restore (firmware) without restoring backup (they really should start using two different terms for this), applied the latest ipcc on from the creator of the one on marcforrest (there should be a new one up on there)

now i can send/receive mms over 3G (some 3G towers don't work though, the one at my office being one of them...)
tether works fine as well over 3G
i had the call drop issue yesterday just after jailbreaking, reset the phone and it was gone again

so looks like it's working fine, might have just been my phone that needed the firmware restore
