Hmm as far as I understood it applies to 3GS only and won't allow any 3GS's to restore/upgrade to 3.1.2

iPhone overseas

Apologies if this has been asked before, I have searched but can't find this topic...

If I buy an iPhone in SA (not locked?), will I be able to use it in the U.K with a UK sim card just by inserting the UK sim card?

Will it work straight away or will I need to activate via itunes? (I’m not planning to take my PC with me)

Anybody have luck with 3.1.3 and the 2G iPhone? I can't seem to get my pwned firmware to restore.

You just need to activate the phone once and then you can change sim cards without having to activate again. I use my vodacom supplied iphone in the UK often and I don't need to reactivate when i switch my vodacom sim card with my virgin mobile uk sim card.
 
So, over the weekend I synced my unlocked/cracked iphone with my mac and a message pops up saying something like apple knows you have a cracked iphone and certain functions will be disabled... so I ignored the message, thinking nothing of it... then on Sunday, I got two pop-up screens saying a similar kind of thing, and then all of a sudden most of my sounds stopped working... Then Monday most of apps stopped working... I restart my phone (I have a new 3GS with 3.1.2) but I need blackra1n to start the phone again, and I do that, and I am up and running again, but still no apps or sound... So yes, then I had to restore my phone, loaded 3.1.3 on it, and needless to say, I have a proper, non-cracked iphone now, with free/paid apps...
If you have a cracked iphone, go to Sbsettings > more > Extras > Apple killswitch off to make sure this doesn't happen to you...

Now I am waiting for a new crack...

Till then, what are the best free apps on the local app store?

So when you say turn it off..... it must be ion the off position.... as in not on... just checking.. as this is the first time I have heard of this...

I synced by phone, I think on Friday, so that was most likely what started everything... I was just as surprised when I realized that apple could somehow "take control" of your phone... I don't know if anyone else had this happen to them?

Yes, it must be in the off position.

I cannot find anything on the net to support my case... All I can say is that I have a new iphone, had OS 3.1.2 on it, cracked it with blackra1n (which meant I couldn't reset my phone if I wasn't near a computer with the blackra1n app)... My sound stopped working, only when I received a call, the sound worked... Then most of my apps stopped working... if I pressed on a app it would start to open and then just all of a sudden close... I decided to restart my phone with blackra1n, and it worked the first time, but still no sound and apps... then, the second time I tried to restart my phone with blackra1n, the app just froze and never completed, so I couldn't finish the restart... So, I restored my phone, and it automatically installed OS 3.1.3, so no jailbreak for me :(
 
Jailbreak for firmware 3.1.3

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet BUT

I just found out that Sn0wbreeze 3.1.3 has been released which can jailbreak iPhone 2G, 3G and iPhone 3GS on the latest iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. One thing which is to be noted here is that it will work with iPhone 3GS only if it has the older bootrom (non-MC model). iPhone 3GS users who have upgraded to the stock 3.1.3 are still out of luck. Im sure there will be a jailbreak soon for the new bootrom Iphone 3gs.

kinda old news... it only works if you are already JB on 3.1.2!
 
Anyone know of any tricks to buy apps from the US iTunes store?

I've seen a few tutorials on how to get a US account so that's no problem, but will my creditcard work?

There was something about buying vouchers first and loading it onto your US account. Someone else will know better though.
 
you will need to buy a voucher and redeem them on your US account, like that you wont be putting in any of your credit card details
