Sadly, this weekend's Soweto Derby will not have much meaning, both teams are safe for a top 8 finish, if only they could have played at Soccer City. As for the title, Sundowns will need to win both, but SSU have a tricky game away to Platinum Stars.

Results for Tuesday and Wednesday:

Tuesday
Bloem Celtic 2 - 2 Golden Arrows
Ajax Cape Town 1 - 0 Jomo Cosmos

Wednesday
Wits 0 - 3 Santos
AmaZulu 1 - 0 Free State Stars
Maritzburg Utd 2 - 1 Orlando Pirates
Platinum Stars 0 - 1 SuperSport United

Sadly, 2 games were called off last night. Kaizer Chiefs vs MP Black Aces was called off due to a water-logged pitch at Loftus, and Sundowns vs Swallows was called off due to a floodlight failure at the Super Stadium.

Worse than what it was in Bloem?? If that was not called off, then Loftus must have been a swimming pool.

Yes it was very very bad. It's a good thing the SWC will beplayed in June. Otherwise there were gonna be a lot of red faces. The drainage system at Loftus is not up to standard.

Bulls fans will not like this, but Loftus has many problems. The pitch doesn't drain well, the lights failed twice earlier in the season, and foregniers think that the place is a dump.

Also, found this very interesting article on News24:

Johannesburg - The newly-elected SAFA executive committee believes this will be a step towards forging Bafana Bafana into a top team on the continent.

SAFA heads will meet with their Premier Soccer League counterparts in Johannesburg on Thursday to discuss this heated issue as well as those relating to amateur and professional soccer.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani believes the foreign influence is damaging the local game as it limits opportunities for domestic players.

"Currently, National Soccer League clubs can sign five foreign players, which is not doing the development of football in our country any good," he told the Sowetan.

"In addition, foreigners who have been in this country for more than five years become naturalised South Africans, meaning they can be fielded as local players. The problem is that these players cannot play for our national teams."

Foreign limit proposed for PSL

I'm all for it, reduce the number of foriegners, and force every PSL club to have a youth system. :D

That is the way to go...some of the foreign players that play in our league do not even get a sniff at a place in their respective national teams. That tells you that they are of low quality. In the meantime there are plenty of local yougsters that are immensely talented but never get a chance.

On the PSL news - the game featuring Sundowns and Swallows wll resume where it was abondoned...with the same personnel and the same scoreline. Sundowns are trailing by 0-2 with 55 minutes to play. This is due to the fact that the game was stopped because of man made occurences i.e lights failing.

I have a problem with this rule...I think it's nonsensical...what happens if one the players that was playing gets injured during training and cannot continue when the game is resumed after 48 hours? Does that mean he gets substituted? What if the substitutions had been exhausted?
What happens if the resumed game gets rained out....Are they going to apply the normal reschedulling whereby the game resumes from the begining at 0-0 ?

The game starts again at 38 minutes because the game stopped due to a non-weather problem. The PSL rules say that the game should be replayed in 48 hours, that way the player getting injuried shouldn't be a problem. As for if it did happen, I assume that the PSL would give them a 'free substitution'.

Sundowns managed to pull off a 3 - 3 draw with Swallows, but they are now 4 points behind with 2 games to go.

Yep, the trophy will be at Moses Mabhida on 6 March.

They could bring out the trophy on Wednesday already. If SS beat Wits then their lead becomes unassailable. They will have 60 points and with Sundows currently sitting on 53 points their last 2 games will be of academic interest only. Also Chiefs (no3) is sitting on 45 pts therefore Sundowns can no longer be overtaken. Jomo Cosmos is now relegated, Mpumalanga Black Aces can still pull off a miraculous escape if they win both their remaining games with Wits failing to win any of their remaining 2 games.

What an anti-climax finish to the league???I was hoping for it to go down to last day....oh well we must congratulate the champions elect Supersport. In the meantime let's start conveying our condolences to Jomo Cosmos. Hopefully the cup games will be a little bit more exciting. Otherwise it's going to be a long time without Super Diski.

Also, I have been wondered if the relegated teams will participate in the Cup competions or not. Does anyone know?

You are right that SS can win, but I think that you only get the trophy after the last game. As for relegation, Cosmos are out, but even if Aces or Wits finish 15th, they can still survuve in the promotion/relegation play offs.

For the Nedbank Cup the 'old' PSL sides still get the 'seeded' spots. As for the Telkom Knockout, not sure if it's being played.

The title can be decided tomorrow. If Sundowns don't beat Cosmos, it's SSU for a 3rd time!

bring on the World Cup please...we know the league is over already
Sunfloppers had two silly draws that blew thier chances.....

SIR Gavin Hunt takes it for a third time :wtf:

Even if Sundowns won all their games after the Xmas break, it wouldn't have helped seeing that SS kept on winning theirs as well. Sundowns had a slow start when they surrendered leads to Wits and AJax in the first round and as a result by mid season they were like number 9 on the log. Had they started at the same pace they showed in the 2nd round, they would have wrapped up the title. Therefore, it's a bit unfair to call them Sunfloppers as their season only got resurrected in the second round when SS was already coasting to the finish. New coach, new players (half the team) casued them to start slowly...but you better watch out next season (provided they are able to hang on to the volatile Hristo Stoichkov)

Looks like the trophy will be at Wits tonight, even though Gavin Hunt asked for it not to be there:

Johannesburg - SuperSport United boss Gavin Hunt has asked the PSL not to bring the league trophy to the Super Stadium on Wednesday night, where his charges can claim a third successive title by beating Wits.

Matsatsantsa go into the tie four points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns and if the Brazilians fail to beat Cosmos at the Rand Stadium the title will automatically go the way of Hunt's charges.

But the former Moroka Swallows mentor has called for the trophy not to be on the sidelines as he feels that it distracts his players, something they have experienced in the last two PSL campaigns.

"We don't need that," he told IOL.co.za.

"We've had the trophy on the sidelines for the last two years in our final match and it's not a nice experience. I would urge the PSL to keep it away from the stadium.

"We want to worry about the match and nothing else," he added.

Hunt is refusing to count his chickens before they hatch, with his sole focus on overcoming the Students.

"We have to respect the game. I have learnt that you don't have to get ahead of yourself because a lot can change in this game."

Meanwhile, Hunt's wishes are unlikely to be granted as PSL chief executive Kjetil Siem has announced that the SuperSport will be presented with the trophy on Wednesday evening, should they claim PSL honours.

"We will acknowledge the league winners if it's decided on Wednesday," said Siem.

"We have a planning meeting with the sponsors to discuss logistics and a possible trophy presentation."
