The Offical PSL Thread

The Moses Mabhida grass looks a little hurt, maybe that's why. I wonder if they plan to relay the pitch are just going to give the grass time to recover before the world cup. It doesn't make sense why they would move to a different when the game is this coming weekend. Can't surely be due to worries of pitch abuse at the new stadium.

Apperently it is to do with the pitch. Most of the WC pitches were a mix of kikuya and rye grass. For the WC FIFA wants just rye, so now that it's becoming winter, the kikuya is dying out, and the rye will grow over it, to leave a field made up of rye grass. PE's Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is closed until the end of April for pitch for this process, so I expect about the same from MM. Also, the game is comfirmed for Saturday, 8:15pm kick off.

I watched this game and I can't explain how sore my stomach was from all the laughter!!! It's a comedy flick more than a soccer match!!! Apparent derby? What derby? This has got to be the most raped match-up in Africa!!! They are going to play against each other again this year, maybe 10 or 20 times!

I can remember the seasons of 95-99...I was a laaitie, but my dad and brothers all watched local footbal like we watch Premier league nowadays...what has happened? They keep on pouring money into the PSL and for what?Sponsors make money out of this probably...

I'm sorry, PSL is a dying thing!

2nd leg of the PSL/NFD play-off is just about to start. Leopards lead Black Aces 2-1, but this game is in Mpumalanga. The kick off is being delayed due to rain though.

Game ended Aces 2 - 1 Leopards, so the tie ended 3 all with 1 away goal each. Aces won 5 - 3 on penalties, so Mpumalanga Black Aces will be in the PSL next season.

Telkom Knockout final result:

Ajax CT 1 - 2 Kaizer Chiefs:

Match report

Unlucky FC Cape Town. They did really well beating an in-form Kaizer Chiefs team in the Round of 16 and then just losing to Wits in the quarter's. NFD doing really well. Also a great result result for Sundowns. :)

It's a real pity about our NFD, they get very little money, virtually no TV time, and the league is split into 2. Teams only play 7 other teams during the league, so they play each team 3 times, which is still only 21 games. It in no way prepares a team for the PSL, sad really.

As from next season the NFD will be reunited again making one stream with 16 teams as it was before. The PSL has pledged R70 Million to fund the NFD. Some terms that were agreed to include the teams not signing more than 3 foreign players and each team must have a minimum of 5 under 23 South African born players. This will certainly raise the standard in the NFD and maybe they might get some sponsorship and some TV coverage.

IMO the Vodacom league should also be funded by this much.

Just saw this on News24, really glad to see this happening. Hopefully they push up the R 100 000 p/m grant that the clubs get. I really would like to see the NFD become a professional league. Hoepfully it will stop club owners selling the clubs all the times and them ending up in other cities. My poor Bay United may suffer this fate.

The whole soccer pyramid in SA needs to be improved, the PSL is decent, but we nfd a good NFD, good provincial leagues and regional leagues. With the WC money that SAFA will get, I can only hope that they use it to better all of SA soccer, and not just the PSL.

+1
If it happens this should put SA right up there in terms of realistically competing with the worlds best. We have got a big pool of talented players that are not getting the opportunity because of a lack of "confidence" shown by SAFA. They then just fade away and precious talent is lost. Let's hope with the WC better things will happen.

Some sad (but not unexpected) news:

SuperSport were beaten 3-1 in Nigeria’s Owerri heartland by a team appropriately named after the territory in which they are based after drawing the first-leg 1-1 at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg two weeks ago.

Full Story

So SA once again has no teams in the CAF Champions League. At least SSU go into the 3rd round of the CAF Confederation Cup. Really SA teams need to toughen up and take African football seriosly.

Nedbank cup semi-finals confirmed:

Saturday 15 May:

3pm Free State Stars vs Wits Olen Park
8pm Amazulu vs Mamelodi Sundowns Kings Park

2 of those teams will be the first to play at Soccer City. :)

If it turns out to be Sundowns vs Free State Stars, I will be there otherwise I won't bother.

"Orlando Pirates, let me tell you before you get tjatjarag. This is a revolutionary Nedbank cup. You know nothing about revolutionary cups here. Here you win games and behave or else you jump. Don’t laugh, don’t come here with that black & white tendency. You can do it somewhere else in Orlando, not here. If you're going to continue undermining other PSL teams and not win any trophy for another decade, you're in the wrong league. Rubbish is what your players play on the pitch. You're a small team, you can't win anything. Go out to 1st division, you useless agent."
