The Official NVidia Shield Thread

Please pardon my ignorance but I'm new to the Nvidia Shield Pro and hoping I can get some help on the gaming side of the console.

I would like to set up some games for my son to play but I'm a bit confused as there are games in the Play Store as well as games in the Nvidia Games app.

I don't have any PC games, and whenever I look at a game on Nvidia Games it says I have to own it on steam etc. which I clearly don't as I've never been a PC gamer, however, those games seem way superior than the games found in the Play Store...

So my question is how do I go about playing those games? What account do I need to sign up for? Cost? Are any games free? etc...

The games in Google Playstore are straightforward, download to console, pay and play... but I don't think the same applies to Nvidia Games?

Ideally there are some games I'd want to download and play from Nvidia Games but it seems the games are on a cloud and I need to subscribe to something to play?

Id appreciate the help.
The games from nvidia you need to own first and it won't *just* stream as-is seeing you are in South Africa? I have done the setup, set my vpn to US and it was not good. You will find that the Playstation store is exactly the same as it isn't available locally. Until then it is lets slide show/stutter game...

If you'd like to stream from the pc to your shield you would need a nvidia card for Game Streaming. However, I would suggest using moonlight instead of the GS built in app for better performance.

I have CEC turned on and my Shield also randomly turns itself on. The problem is, it turns on the tv and soundbar as well.

Installed BBC iPlayer, this afternoon, it is slow to respond, and when I select something, it wants to download it?

Hi, So I am about to pull the trigger on the 2019 Shield TV Pro. Is it still the go to king of the streaming boxes? Are there any notable issues with it nowadays that i should be aware of?

Pull the trigger already.

Performance is unparalleled. I have a Xiaomi Mi Box and a Shield TV Pro, and I definitely can tell the difference in performance.

But the killer feature for me is the local game streaming. It’s perfect if you use an Ethernet cable.

However GeForce NOW is not available in South Africa. So your best bet is to VPN and connect to a European Server. But you’ve got to accept the 150-200ms latency.

So after using my Nvidia Shield Pro for some time I've only found one flaw, which is the Dolby Vision washing out the colour red. Its extremely noticeable when switching from the TV's native netflix app and watching a Dolby Vision film and then swapping over to the Nvidia Shield... it was already reported on their forum it seems, but other than that, still the best media player device overall.

MAJOR WARNING TO ALL SHIELD OWNERS!

If you're playing around with VPN's on the Shield like I did, You ARE going to get a FORCED update to your GUI, that converts your "AndroidTV Shield Interface" into a regular "GoogleTV" interface.

ADVERTS will then take up the top 40% of your screen, advertising things like AppleTV (Yep.... you heard me right - not making this shlt up) and Google Rentals. Your Screen will also get a page that shows movies on your Amazon/Netflix/etc subscriptions, but scattered between them will be Google Movie Rentals. Read: "Basically 100's of mini adverts".

I got off my VPN and followed a tutorial to roll back the updates - it did work, and then BOOM it came back again. Since SA doesn't have Disney+ or Discovery+ and things like that, the only two ads I get now are "Try YouTube!" and "Explore Google Play Store!" - that's what you will now see covering half your screen. You cannot disable this.

My suggestion: Be careful when using VPN's, and if you don't, disable AUTO UPDATES NOW because they are rolling this update out in phases.

Ouch, I didn't know about the update and don't use a VPN.
I see this article states the update was rolling out to "United States, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Australia" users. Regardless, my updates are always set to manual. Hope there's a permanent rollback solution for you eventually.

I think you've missed underline and bold.

' The rollout starts today (Jun. 17th 2021) and should be complete by June 24th. '

I'm on Chromecast with GoogleTV, I disabled all ads in the settings. can you not disable.

As I understand it, it is not an update, but a server side switch, you log into an area where this is enabled, you get the extra adds, reddit has been crying for a month already about this.

No you cannot disable the ads.

I'm not "Late" to the party there was no post about it when I came here - some people like a head's up... But whatever. If ads don't bother you, go read something else. I personally don't want AppleTV adverts taking up 40% of my screen when I switch it on.

This isn't a "Switch VPN off and you're fine again" thing, this update will get forced onto you if you're not careful. Getting rid of it isn't easy, it behaves like a cockroach - even after killing it, once you turn the light on the next day it's back.

When it gets switched on here, we will get it, when you Shield dies due to Surges and brown outs, [ load shedding ] and you replace it, you will have it. It is the new normal, getting hysterical about it, is not going to change anything.

My Shield boots straight into Tivimate, so have no idea, if I have it or not.

Not interested enough to go check either.

But then YMMV ...

Only effective way to get rid of it is to sideload a new launcher of your choice.

At least Google, still allows this.

Right on brother! Just purchased a Lifetime sub to this legendary piece of software myself.

Again, sorry for sounding hysterical, I just don't gel well with the idea of adverts getting thrown in my face. If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother you.

This guy getting drag queen adverts shoved in his face is quite funny though..pdij5jqco0871.jpg

Really, could not be bothered, if I want to watch something on YouTube, or whatever, I just select and press enter. Long ago learnt to filter out irrelevant ****, in media, be it news papers, or as in this instance your TV. Only way I can stay fairly sane.
