In my case, no CEC - 24 inch Dell FHD monitor, Shield to monitor HDMI, Shield to JVC 2.0 sound bar, is an Asus USB sound card.

Ive also had these random turn offs... No CEC enabled. It would just power offMine does, then after awhile, switches off.![]()
Nope. Only thing as per setup it goes to sleep after a while.Anyone experiencing their Shield turning ON randomly? Feels like I'm living with a ghost.
The games from nvidia you need to own first and it won't *just* stream as-is seeing you are in South Africa? I have done the setup, set my vpn to US and it was not good. You will find that the Playstation store is exactly the same as it isn't available locally. Until then it is lets slide show/stutter game...Please pardon my ignorance but I'm new to the Nvidia Shield Pro and hoping I can get some help on the gaming side of the console.
I would like to set up some games for my son to play but I'm a bit confused as there are games in the Play Store as well as games in the Nvidia Games app.
I don't have any PC games, and whenever I look at a game on Nvidia Games it says I have to own it on steam etc. which I clearly don't as I've never been a PC gamer, however, those games seem way superior than the games found in the Play Store...
So my question is how do I go about playing those games? What account do I need to sign up for? Cost? Are any games free? etc...
The games in Google Playstore are straightforward, download to console, pay and play... but I don't think the same applies to Nvidia Games?
Ideally there are some games I'd want to download and play from Nvidia Games but it seems the games are on a cloud and I need to subscribe to something to play?
Id appreciate the help.
Hi, So I am about to pull the trigger on the 2019 Shield TV Pro. Is it still the go to king of the streaming boxes? Are there any notable issues with it nowadays that i should be aware of?

MAJOR WARNING TO ALL SHIELD OWNERS!
If you're playing around with VPN's on the Shield like I did, You ARE going to get a FORCED update to your GUI, that converts your "AndroidTV Shield Interface" into a regular "GoogleTV" interface.
ADVERTS will then take up the top 40% of your screen, advertising things like AppleTV (Yep.... you heard me right - not making this shlt up) and Google Rentals. Your Screen will also get a page that shows movies on your Amazon/Netflix/etc subscriptions, but scattered between them will be Google Movie Rentals. Read: "Basically 100's of mini adverts".
I got off my VPN and followed a tutorial to roll back the updates - it did work, and then BOOM it came back again. Since SA doesn't have Disney+ or Discovery+ and things like that, the only two ads I get now are "Try YouTube!" and "Explore Google Play Store!" - that's what you will now see covering half your screen. You cannot disable this.
My suggestion: Be careful when using VPN's, and if you don't, disable AUTO UPDATES NOW because they are rolling this update out in phases.

No you cannot disable the ads.
I'm not "Late" to the party there was no post about when I came here - some people like a head's up... But whatever. If ads don't bother you, go read something else. I personally don't want AppleTV adverts taking up 40% of my screen when I switch it on.
This isn't a "Switch VPN off and you're fine again" thing, this update will get forced onto you if you're not careful. Getting rid of it isn't easy, it behaves like a cockroach - even after killing it, once you turn the light on the next day it's back.
My Shield boots straight into Tivimate, so have no idea, if I have it or not.

Right on brother! Just purchased a Lifetime sub to this legendary piece of software myself.
Again, sorry for sounding hysterical, I just don't gel well with the idea of adverts getting thrown in my face. If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother you.
This guy getting drag queen adverts shoved in his face is quite funny though..View attachment 1116292
