The official running thread™

Ordered the ForeverRun 2. Not too keen on the colourway. I loved the full black of the wide version more, but it would be too wide since the FR2 is already pretty accommodating.

And then I gambled on the wide version of the Velocity Nitro 3. Couldn't find out how wide the 'wide' version will be. Just need an extra 3-4mm in width. So we'll see.

I saw the blacked out version of the FR2. It does look nice. I like they greyish color aswell. I've only done about 150km's on the pair that I bought. I only use them every now and again on a recovery run after a hard speed session. I still default to the velocity's for daily training. I guess it's because they work so well on all terrains. Anyway's I'll go for a trail run at 4am.

How
many shoes do you own ? 1 for each calender day of the month?

Can't sleep... I feel haunted by last weeks incident. Our other dog is moping. She does not even want to go for a walk or run.
The loss will take quite some time to deal with. Not a great feeling at all. Sucks big time.

How many shoes? Depends on how you count them. If you take shoes I did at least one run with in the past year it would be around 15 pairs. If you count spares and ones I haven't run in in a while (trail) it must be 20.

Think I also have around 140km on my FR2. Have you noticed that they are much louder (slappier) when hitting the ground? Could be my stride though.

Still rocking my Velocity Nitro 2s most of the time for wet/muddy roads. Just because they aren't 'new'.

Puma don't play around. My order I placed last night has shipped. Should be here by Friday.
Mine arrived today.
They had no deviate 3s or mag max shoes in my size.🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ I ended up doing the unthinkable and bought a pair of boston 12 as a substitute for the deviates. Atleast this will bump me up to 5 pairs of running shoes and should last about 16-20 weeks. I'm about to retire 3 pairs of puma shoes, 2 pairs of velocitys and 1 pair deviates. Thats brings the total of retired shoes to 5 pairs this year already🫣🫣

Nice colour!

Yeah, you run WAY more than I do. Aside from long runs I average around 8km a day. Long runs can be from 10 - 21K depending on the suggested workout. Can't believe you are already retiring Pumas.

My Velocity 2 8.5 has 313km on it now. The MagMax is closing in on 160km, Velocity 3 is at 132km and the ForeverRun 2 is at 118km.. I really need to get over my fear of the Deviate and use it more. Only has 22km on it. What would you suggest would be the best way to break in/ease into running with the plated shoes? Obviously trying a full out sprint session from the start wasn't the best idea.

Did a base session today with the MagMax and kinda went overboard. Kept running too fast for some reason. Didn't stick to my 6:30 ideal base run pace. Still felt good though.

Mine also arrived today (pargo pickup)… will attempt a run tomorrow worth the road shoes

Got mine today as well. Just tried them on no running but I must say the Scend Pro 2 look pretty solid for R900. Should be good for just putting in some km on the road.

Happy with the Nitro 3's as well. A bit better tech on them and should be a good runner.

I bought some skyrocket lite's on a takealot deal last year but I'm not feeling them. Will keep them for wearing around and not running/walking.Shoes.jpg

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts once you've tried them both and can compare if the Nitro 3 is so much better to justify the premium.

I don't think they are comparable just from the construction. I don't expect them to do the same thing. The Scend are much wider and thicker cushioned. They will be good for just putting in a bunch of km or recovery runs and make for a easy slog.
The nitro will be better for doing any tempo/threshold and general running.

I was thinking more about the quality and longevity of the foam used and the difference between the PumaGrip and ProTread.

@8letters

Really sorry to hear about your dog. Wish you all the best

I am seem to have missed the special again -_- and I was really keen on getting the deviate nitro 3s

Pics or it didn't happen.

Guess having to wait longer is what I get for living so far way from main centres. :(

Road shoes are in green and the trails in orange

The deviates break in quite quickly. I would say use them on a few easy runs and do strides in them at the end of ypur run to loosen up the plate a bit. Start using them for speed sessions after about 40-50kms

The velocity's softens up after about 100-150km's. They provide the best cusioning and responsiveness between 300-700km's.

Will give that a try. Might just take them out for today's 46 min base run. And force myself to take it slow.

does running shoes have so little life

so i suck at running on the road for some reason my chest pulls stiff and all

so i started a 5km run/jog/brisk walk at a park run and enjoying it so far but i have bought a trail running hitec for this

im worried now that if running eats up shoes its going to be costly

cos i see running shoes are +-2k and up for decent ones

A good pair of running shoes should lasts around 800 km. However, if you're a forefoot striker and apply a lot of force while running, the rubber in the forefoot area tends to wear down faster, which can reduce the shoe’s lifespan to about 600–650 km. For reference, I usually get between 600-800 km's on a pair of shoes. A pair of daily trainers ie the velocity's lasts about 6 weeks for me sometimes 7 -8 depending on how much I run.
