The Shroom Thread

Have you seen Fantastic Fungi?

I watched the documentary yesterday. Very informative.

Mycelium is so amazing, I'm now even intending to study more fungus genera other than the common psychedelic Psilocybe, Copelandia, etc.

Lions' Mane mushrooms (Hericium erinaceus) have been found to activate peripheral nerve regeneration (https://doi.org/10.1007/s11655-014-1624-2).
Some people have reported that Turkey tail mushrooms (Trametes versicolor) have anti-carcinogenic characteristics.

It's a 7/10 documentary imho. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got a little Lion's Mane in a bag going at the moment. Glad you enjoyed it.

Can you give a quick description of the medium you're using to make the "cake" (homemade, bought?) and where do you buy spores?

I think most beginners go the PF Tek route.

Locally spores or complete mushrooms can be bought from a variety of sources. Allegedly. Check google, duh! (or instagram)

I ordered a couple from some vendors to test the waters (delivery in Jan...) but was curious about what that particular forumite used since it was definitely no PFtek kit haha

That is simply a suggestion for beginners. The photo you're referring to is most probably a grain tek. You sterilize your cans with some kind of grain like popcorn or oats or bird seed etc and inoculate the jars with the spores. After a few week the whole jar will be one solid mycelium "cake" which you then break up and mix with your substrate making sure the jars is about 20% or more of the mix. That whole mix gets taken over by the mycelium again and then you simply put that block in fruiting conditions. The mix goes into a tote with holes for air and co2 extract. Check out some videos on Youtube from Mushlove.

Brilliant!!! Thank you for the explanation and reference

Lmao well agreed, Yes the online stores so many people complain about not getting their stuff
I was also very skeptical with online buying but I've used myshrooms a few times in the last couple of months without issues
Even their replacement process is hassle free

The first time I ordered, I got my delivery the next day
Second time, it took about 4 or 5 days (this was around black Friday)
Over a month after my first order I realized the bucket was cracked as I was clearing the bubble wrap, the replacement was delivered within 2 days.

Also, any questions I've had they responded to within 30 minutes via whatsapp..

It's the only online site I've used for shrooms and I'm happy

What are your thoughts on adding horse manure to the coir, vermiculite and gypsum mix?

Other growers say just coir, others have the cvg mix without manure and others add manure

We're just people on a forum. I've never heard of anyone being approached by cops because the cops spent 5 months on a forum building a false persona to arrest someone over a few grams of mushrooms. Is there a chance one of us is a cop on a mission? Sure. But it's a damn small chance. And if that chance worries you, well, you have to deal with that yourself. Because nothing anyone says here is gonna change your mind. And really, I don't care to prove to anyone I'm not a cop. And I don't think anyone on a forum cares to defend themselves like that either.

There's no answer to your question.

You must decide the degree of trust you afford to these anonymous creatures on a forum and roll with that and see how it goes.

Noted thanks for that, however the random banter should invoke a level of trust I suppose

Way bigger fruits IMO, and casing helps it along

It depends on your strain, cubensis varieties love manure, others love wood, you should also add a tablespoon of coffee to your mix they grow much quicker.
