The understated Seacom cable facts

WTH is Infology! They make this stuff as they go so they can declare themselves expert in something?

To be honest that will be my guess. Telkom has little choice really.
All they can offer now is faster connections really. Shapped internet should disappear from the marketplace. It's reason to exist, limited bandwidth will be gone.
Service providers like Axxess, openweb and IS will be eyeing each other to see who blinks first.
The company that does grabs the lions share of new customers.
Would I dump my current service provider if someone offered me a cheaper service.
The answer is a simple YES!

Reality is the market will dictate what we get. Convergence solutions are the most likely. TV (ala dstv), telephone and internet all in one.
My guess is the Chinese will take that TV license they shafted from the taxpayer and give us it all, internet, telephone and of course the internet.

It's the way it is done Europe. Now what price would you pay for DSTV, a free telephone account and access to the internet?
Currently DSTV offers it's premium package at R599, so offer something similiar, add in a phone line and ADSL at an extra R550 and you have a steady income stream of plus minus R1200.
Times that by a telkoms 4 million plus subscribers and you can see why the Chinese love Telkom Media.

ya but hooking on to seacom is one thing, but passing savings to the consumer is another.

who cares if they're paying less and stashing the money into their own pockets?

They are changing the way they operate...They're investing heavily in Nigeria now...

They have their "Joseph Goebbels" wannabe propogandists, mentioned in that article, Goldstuck et al., to convince the SA public, that 10 years longer is what we should be prepared to wait, for lower prices...

What's wrong with just stating:
"there will be no immediate price-cuts"
or
"out sponsor (telkom) will keep on screwing us for a while still"
 
I really don't care how depressing this news is, at least its the truth, unlike pple like Ajay panday with his promises that he obviously doesn't intend to keep.

We will be screwed over again and again and again, just don't know when the screwing will stop. Can't understand how hard it can be to regulate the inductry, I mean if telkom is not abusing its market dominance then pls define the law again to make sure telkom is included, ffs.....

If they just stated the obvious people would feel less inclined to hand over money for their opinions.
 
It would be interesting to see how the broadband prices is going to fall in other African countries that got access to Seacom cable.
I see lots of excitement in this forum. But beware. There was lots of excitement when Neotel was going to start.

He exists because the telecoms operators in SA aren't transparent with their stats being IP and ICASA being useless.
You can then speculate trends and make a good living out of it. As I recall he charges 20K for an hour presentation. (or was that 40K I forgot)

As an admirer of Arthur Goldstuck, most concerned to see his name attached to Telkom. Is Arthur about to do an Isobel Jones and switch from being a consumer friend to making money promoting rubbish?

If not, he should explain his being "powered by Telkom" and do so fast :-)
