Let us know what Netflix version you end up using and if you get app crashes in it all the time like I do??

@techhead are you using netflix sa or us via vpn etc

Netflix is not natively supported on the LIT box so we are side loading. Check a page or two back for details.

No VPN, connecting to SA Netflix for now until it actually is natively supported

Which native Android TV ( from the Android TV Playstore platform ) apps actually work on the LIT Box ? Netflix doesn't , only a sideloaded normal Android version , right ? Isn't the only way to get 4K Netflix through an official Android TV app ? What is the use of this LIT Box then if it doesn't actually support the Android TV operating system ? A MyGica495x would probably do the trick better - especially for the crowd that wants to do the Dstv Now thing.

not sure about 4k, as I'm on 1080p. LIT was supposed to support Showmax, Netflix and DSTV Now out of the box.

They had some issues with the launch and at present only Showmax is working

Netflix only works if they support a particular device, it doesn't bother whether you running Android TV.

Telkom has to now get Netflix to add their device on the compatible list.

Now I understand.
So DSTV also needs to add LIT & Mibox to their DSTV Now compatibility list.

Definitely a premature launch. It was supposed to be a plug and play option for the average Joe - now they are sitting with an even more depleted playstore on Android TV. The average Joe should just return the box and Telkom should stop selling it.

Netflix on my box looks like SD. Is there a setting to chanhe this?

other than the global setting for your netflix account, there is no option to change the quality setting. it's annoying, but I suspect this is because we are using the sideloaded android version, and not the true Android TV version.

Worth pointing out that that if you install VLC media player from the Google Play store, it has some funky results when playing files with different audio streams. In fact, it refuses to play in 5.1 for various formats, it just comes through in stereo. Oddly enough it did work for traditional dolby 5.1 but that doesnt help when you have loads of DTS and TrueHD around.

I tried the same files in Kodi (latest available version installed from Google Play store) and all my problems went away. All 5.1 channels are now working for ALL formats I throw at it...

TLDR

Don't use VLC to play media, use Kodi rather

That's good news. Now i really want to get this box, based on your results. So no pressure, hope your results are spot on :). Is the the playback in kodi super smooth. Are you going through an AVR.

It's still early days, but so far so good. I was getting some stutter on a 28GB 4k movie, but most likely because I was accessing a SMB share from Kodi, and my Kodi is connected via WiFi (for now)

Yes, I have a Marantz NR-1402 amp and Jamo 5.1 speaker system

Edit: Audio that has worked correctly so far (will try a few more)

DTS-HD
AAC 2.0
DD 5.1
TrueHD 7.1 Atmos

Does anyone use a data monitor app that picks up data usage via Lan Cable?

I've tried 3G Watchdog, but it only picks up wifi usage.

nope, no need to monitor data usage. You could check your usage on your ISP, but I don't think thats really gonna work for you.

Thanks so much, this is exactly the info i wanted, spot on.
Yup, i would also go wired, i just have a standard router and wireless is not great but ok. It stutters for me too when accessing large files via wireless on my media pc. I hooked up to a cable and the issue resolved it self. Rewind and fwd got better too. :)
