I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus and vent my frustrations a bit with Webafrica. My fibre degraded completely around mid-October and after much frustration, I decided to cancel my service with them... only to find out they won't let me do that, and I'm forced to pay for service until December. Service that is completely unusable. I have pretty graphs of how kak this service is:

I logged a request with the ISPA (https://ispa.org.za/) which may help, but man, this is very unethical to make people pay for something that they can't use.

Bonus points if anyone around the Woodstock, Cape Town area has an ISP they can recommend that is working well for them. I'm looking at Cool Ideas so far, when I'm finally released from the grip of these bandits.

Afrihost/Cool Ideas

Status update: connectivity is now completely down, not even receiving an IP address anymore, I've returned the router and "cancelled" my service, but I'm told I need to still keep paying until December. Oh, and they won't release my line to any other ISP.

So yeah, literally forced to pay for something I can't use, and prevented from using another service provider. Thanks Webafrica.

Well, thanks @PBCool for trying. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the test account only works with Openserve. I'm with Octotel so I can't switch on the fly. Webafrica need to release the line before I can get any luck.

I guess then I'm trapped in this special chatbot hell until December. Thank god for copy/paste, while I get transferred between agents in a loop. Wish me luck.

Here is me opening a chat just now to their cancellations department, if you want to laugh/cry:

"I'm sorry its taking longer than usual to connect you to an agent. I'll keep trying..."

Thanks Chatbot

Is this not a problem with the FNO?

They make it as difficult as possible to contact them, so that must also be done via ISP. Fck, these guys,

Fcking a disgrace.

I mean, it's possible there could be an issue with the FNO, but I have no way of knowing. All the houses around me are fine, so it's not an area-specific issue at least.

I did get a call from someone after cancelling my line and they said it was Octotel's fault. But no one has fixed anything, I've never heard back from anyone, and I've been sitting without internet since mid-October. And I really can't get hold of anyone at WA that can help. Lord knows I have tried.

Anyway, thanks for sharing in my sorrow, haha. I don't usually post this kind of stuff online, there are more than enough sh*tty service providers out there, but sometimes its just too ridiculous not to say anything.

We're getting fibre pretty soon. Was just looking at WebAfrica and then saw this thread.

Yeah good luck @HunterNW. I actually used to recommend WA to folks, but they really fell off a cliff at some point in the last couple of years. My mom up in Joburg is also stuck with them now and she's also having trouble with her fixed LTE.

The crazy thing for me is just how they basically block you out from getting hold of anyone. Horrific customer support. So it's all fine while it works, but when it doesn't, you're in for tears.

Thanks. Busy reading all the kak about them. Once my line is up i'll see who's available in the area.

It could be possible that the FNO needs to send a technician to test your fiber, but that has to go via the ISP. Goddamn these guys are bad, but I don't think you're worse off at WebAfrica, than for instance AfriHost. I have had so much KACK with them. All is good when it works, but that's it.
