Tormented by Webafrica

Status update: connectivity is now completely down, not even receiving an IP address anymore, I've returned the router and "cancelled" my service, but I'm told I need to still keep paying until December. Oh, and they won't release my line to any other ISP.

So yeah, literally forced to pay for something I can't use, and prevented from using another service provider. Thanks Webafrica.

I had that issue with CI, moving into a new place, 6 weeks wasn’t enough notice for them apparently.

Afrihost, thanks to AfriNatic just had the OS guy put a line on LAN2, won’t solve your billing issue, but you can still get stable internet with someone else.

By the looks of it, which circle of hell in Dante's Inferno would WebAfrica fall under?

I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus and vent my frustrations a bit with Webafrica. My fibre degraded completely around mid-October and after much frustration, I decided to cancel my service with them... only to find out they won't let me do that, and I'm forced to pay for service until December. Service that is completely unusable. I have pretty graphs of how kak this service is:

I logged a request with the ISPA (https://ispa.org.za/) which may help, but man, this is very unethical to make people pay for something that they can't use.
WebAfrica couldn't properly route a packet if their lives depended on it.

Best thing I ever did was move, and they also crooked me out of paying overpriced fees for a crappy router.

@WebAfrica Helper - Thanks for your response to my DM "with further action taken to help", but all the DM says is that you'll investigate (screenshot below), which is the same response I've gotten for weeks now. That doesn't help.

I'd really like to resolve this matter, and I'd really like you to release my line. I reversed the debit order at my bank, because you're charging me for a service that I'm not receiving, but now I see that you've put the charge through on my credit card, which is considerably harder to reverse. Please can I just talk to someone today and get this resolved, this is really getting a bit ridiculous.
Hi there @aviddiviner - we have logged a follow-up on the critical care tech support request and updated the request with your above feedback. Further support to follow

We need a webafrica insider to tell us why the support is so kuk.
I had a friend who worked there in the network ops team, he left when the company was put up for sale a couple years ago, said the whole company went downhill and it quickly became a horrible company to work for.

Morning @aviddiviner - a tier 2 tech has been assigned, thank you so much for taking our call this morning, you will be kept updated with all further support and action to resolve directly by the tech assigned to your connection performance inquiry going forward. As before, you're welcome to reach out to us via DM for any further required discussion or assistance

I'll PM you a test account, if the line is still active you can use that.
See, it's stuff like this that will ensure I sign up with you guys once Openserve finish rolling out fibre in our suburb. I'll be kicking Vox and useless Frogfoot to the curb!

I've been held hostage by the new chatbot future that many companies are embracing, the loop of death and no way to exit. It's as if companies like WebAfrica do zero quality control ever, so if the Chatbot is positively retarded too bad for you.

Op I hope you finally get sorted, always take serious issues to all the social media platforms, Heklopeter and email with CC's to as many higher up employees as possible. Things move a lot quicker even at really backward companies, especially when you find the right person to cc.

WebAfrica Helper how does WA offer support to people who do not have WhatsApp, not that you apparently offer support to those who do, but you know.

How is it that you chose a support channel that is NOT universally accessible to clients?

I ran into this thread after encountering a similar issue from a friend of mine on Vumatel.

They emailed Webafrica in October to ask for the service to be cancelled. WA did not acknowledge it and ended up suspended the line since they did not pay for November. WA then received the email asking for the cancellation around the 2nd week of November.

They are insisting for the full payment of November to be paid for the line to be released and aren’t even willing to offer a prorata amount for the few days in November that it look them to acknowledge that it was meant to be cancelled (which is their fault).

Are ISPs allowed to hold a line like this? Seems wrong to me since they are holding customers at ransom.
