Hi, we are considering moving our adsl line to afrihost, but want to keep our telkom data account. Can we move the line without having to have a afrihost account and what are the con's of moving the line? I know it's cheaper and you don't have to deal with telkom, but i've seen many people say rather keep it with telkom. Thanks

Why would you move the line but then not take advantage of their data bundles?
I don't see any benefit?

My dad wants to keep his stupid telkom email. And will probably end up being billed even if we cancel the telkom account, just too much hastle cancelling.

Te people who say keep it with Telkom are muppets.
AH is a lot cheaper, and their service is great. Wen I oved my line I requested the transfer oa Saturday, and it was done that next monday morning. Try getting Telkom to do anything within a 2-day turn-around time.
I stronly advise you try and convince your dad to move and take advantage of the benefits. I can honestly not think of one single con in you moving to AH completely.

You can retain the Telkom email for a fee afaik.

Thanks, i'll persuade him to get the bundled line and pay the fee for the email. What will happen to the 384 package when telkom upgrade to 1mbit? Will we have to signup for the 1mbit package or will it be done automatically by afrihost and therefore be forced to pay the R100 more. 1 more question, what happens if you decided you want to change ISP but keep the line with afrihost, if you are signed up with the bundle would you be able to cancel just the data account?

Not only that, people who have an email addy with their ISP are downright stupid! There are many free email providers out there in the interwebz, gmail, gmx, hotmail etc.
Over the last, dunno, 15 years or so, I switched ISPs quite a lot, even moved from Germany to SA ... and guess what: I'm still on the same email addy.

The problem is his email is linked to many things, online banking, medical aid etc and you can't change it online you have to phone each place and it's a mission. Why he used it in the first place is another story.

also: set up auto forwarding and auto reply on his mails for a couple of months while you migrate his details to a new website

You are able to unbundle your package again and then just pay the line rental fee.

At present, we have not yet confirmed whether we will automatically upgrade, it depends on whether the upgrades from Telkom are rolled out in your area or not, and what the related charges will be. At this point Telkom have made several statements, we are waiting for the final confirmation to ISP's, and then our Marketing department will make the call.

You can unbundle, as someone mentioned in this thread, at any time and move either your data or line to Telkom or another ISP.

Can't wait for my line transfer to afrihost to be complete, so someone ELSE can get telkom to explain why my exchange only supports 6mbps. The line is a lie!
