Ubuntu LTS + Cacti + Mikrotik

Hi forumites!

I have a client that is suffering from bandwidth mysteriously disappearing. They are using a Vodacom LTE router.

Meh thinking was putting a Mikrotik router behind the LTE router. Enable SNMP and send data to an Ubuntu LTS server running Cacti 0.8.8.

To the best of my abilities I have no got the Cacti+Mikrotik setup to work. Im prepared to give 'sexy favours' to the man or woman who can help me make it work.

However, are there any other suggestions as to what I could use or do to measure the traffic/bandwidth over a period of time? I just want to identify which device or user is consuming all the bandwidth.

Why not just use the built in Torch tool, in the Mikrotik router?

Because I need to leave it and let the server record data for like 2 hours.

We have tried monitoring it directly and as murphy's &^%$*@$ law dictates, nothing uses the connection when we watch it.

Another reason is that if we are armed with printable proof that my client isint using the connection, we can take it to Vodacom.

Changed from LTS 14.04 to LTS 15.04 and almost all errors in cacti.log disappeared. Researched that the correction boiled down to a kernel update.

No errors whatsoever yet the mikrotik graphs are blank and empty.

Have you tried to enable the Mikrotik's built in graphing which will display each interface.

Netflow is going to work better than SNMP.

You are right. SNMP didnt work. I found a working mikrotik template but it was all for nought.

The best way I found is to use the Attix5 Traffic Monitor with your Mikrotik. It works perfectly and displays which IP address is using bandwidth and records how much.

U could have also just setup Squid proxy and pull logs with sarg

Correct me if im wrong, but that would only capture web traffic.

I need to capture and measure all traffic originating from the whole IP subnet. Including for example their IP cams.

Strangely enough the test reports no data irregularities so far. Bandwidth is not disappearing.
