Uncapped ADSL for R159

"I have just phoned MyIsp and asked them why they don't have a 512k uncapped offer and they told me because 512k will be obsolete in 3 months time nationally".

The ISP's allready knows the timelines for the line upgrades and what will be possible. I believe firmly that the bottom speed wil be 1 meg. The drastic drop in bandwidth prices is also in preparation for the new fibreoptic cables like EASSY and WACS. Rather scramble now than drop out of the market.

all this is good for the man in the street.

:p

At the rate of price decline seen over the past 2 weeks, how long will it take for someone to start PAYING USERS to use their service?

Something like: "Buy this Gaming PC/Desktop PC/laptop/Home Entertainment Centre/Lounge Suite/House/Apartment and we'll pay you to have fun, on an uncapped account, by giving you the uncapped account for free for 1 year!"?

...Not long. ;)

Hehe just spotted: Interprise and MyISP have the same physical address.. Nothing like some fake "competition"..

Yeah, i think unless the ISP's have been ripping us off big time they might know something about the future of telecomms from Telkom's POV

The only reason I have not signed up for one of these uncapped packages (Afrihost being my ISP of choice) is the whole Telkom line speed issue. If you take the Afrihost 8Meg as a guide it wil mean an uncapped package on a 10Meg ADSL line will suddenly cost around R1 246 per month. I have 2 colleagues here in Pta who used to be on 4M lines who have been syncing and downloading @ 8M for the past 2 weeks.

I will give it another 3-4 months before switching packages.

Correction, MyISP does allow EFT, but...from their application form...http://www.myisp.co.za/download/MyISP v3.pdf

EFT / Direct Deposit (applicable to biannual and annual billing only, include payment proof)

That is no good, since MyISP is willing to allow 1 month's notice on Debit Orders.

EFTs should be allowed with two months' payment in advance and the 1 month notice.

No, they're openly the same company. One of my accounts is with MyISP, for some months now. The monthly bill comes from Interprise (even though I signed up with MyISP). I think MyISP is the more user-friendly, softer face of the same company.

My MyISP (my my isp??? :wtf: ) billing email reads as follows:

Dear xxx,

Attached hereto is your latest invoice from Interprise – Your Internet Partner.

Please take note of the payment profile on the attached invoice before making payment, as
clients paying by debit order or credit card will automatically be debited on the due date.

So they have two faces. And these two faces do not necessarily offer all of the same products. Maybe something like Checkers and Shoprite. MyISP is the Shoprite (In terms of being the econo inflection).

Fun fact: SAT3 + SEACOM + EASSy + ACE + WACS == 10080gbps. That's 10'080'000 1mbps lines. Yes, SA doesn't get the full linespeed of all those cables, but that's a huge number regardless. And that's without factoring in the SAT3 upgrade.

Other fun fact: SEACOM carries 1280gbps, but to date, only 90gbps has been lit. That's 7% of the cable capacity. So if you're still whining about slow speeds, and reckon that this whole thing is unsustainable, give it time.

Anybody who jumped onto the mweb bandwagon the first chance they got must be feeling a little silly right now. I'm gonna wait out the storm a little longer ;)

I can't see why. It is all month to month and R159 is the cheapest in competition, M-Webs uncapped + line rental is still a awesome deal and they are a large respectable ISP and have been for a long time. So I think that if you are with M-Web now good on you.

I can see it now:

"WA selling uncapped for R69" :P

pretty pretty plz:whistle:

Okay, Every body claims it`s unsustainable and I do believe there is a certain point where they have to charge some minimum fee
to cover for all the admin and the services, but where exactly does the price break come. Who ever thought we would be seeing
uncapped at R159 a month, ever!!! I just a shame you have to pay R131 + R152 before you get anything...

But I do believe the mobile operators must drop their basic fee of R289 a GB cause it is simply to high and more people on the
street will go for a cheaper service (this is where MTN OOB idea has a bigger impact although their 1day R50 uncapped fair usage
policy of 150MB is laughable) to get more people connected.

It`s like afrihost`s initial awesome R29/GB which might hopefully become R29/10GB for mom/dad (a gig is becoming like
nothing even for general browsing and email only) since with all services you must have some basic sustainable fee etc.

Semi-Shaped FTW
