Uncapped ADSL Info...[?]

Hi.

I'm interested in getting my first ADSL package (after my 2 year contract with Vodacom 3G expired)

I'm drawn towards the uncapped deals. At first I was instantly drawn to the MWeb 384kb/s package for R219 (R349 incl. line rental), but upon doing further research I came to find out that users were experiencing sickening low download speeds of 40kb/s (and 1kb/s with torrents :wtf:) I'm used to experiencing speeds of 300 - 600kb/s with Vodacom.

Without hesitation, I struck that offer off my list, and am now considering getting the same MWeb uncapped package, but with a 4096kb/s line going for R899 (incl. line rental)

I would like to get your feedback on this package?

  • What are the average HTTP download speeds?
  • What are the average P2P download speeds?
  • How fast do YouTube videos load?
  • How does normal web browsing perform?
  • How does updating software perform? And,
  • Is online gaming any good (NFS World, FIFA 11 etc.)

How badly does the shaping affect the above mentioned, and at what times do they shape?

AND finally, in your opinion, are there any better packages out there that are R899 or less?

I hope I'm not hassling you guys :D

http depends on website normaly max my line, file sharing you sue 2 or more to max your line.

p2p days 40-50kbs, late night it picks up to full speed, easy 10GB+ a day.

480p videos dont load, most hd don't load as well.

websites dont load its done. (chrome)

not sure i just update anti virus.

shaping starts at 7am then 6pm starts a pick some sped and midnight it goes nicely :)

only better package is openweb gold, 700 bucks and then R400 for your line.

weekend is about full speed till 11am, weekends is 150kbs during day, this includes public holidays.

gaming should be good i don't play those games mentioned

thats just my experience.

  • What are the average HTTP download speeds? - Full line speed all day, unless you are using certain file hosting services
  • What are the average P2P download speeds? - Dependant on time of day, between 10kb/s and 300+-
  • How fast do YouTube videos load? - 720p videos are the only ones that require any buffering on my end
  • How does normal web browsing perform? - Excellent, second highest priority
  • How does updating software perform? - Again, works as it should, things are pretty quick in this area
  • Is online gaming any good (NFS World, FIFA 11 etc.) - Only play WoW and Steam games, latency is as good as an unshaped package or better most of the time. Has hiccups, but are manageable.

500kbps for http and 300kbps for torrents...sounds really good! :-)
