Uncapped ADSL prices: Telkom versus MWEB

So did they magically create the "throttled" accounts now or was that always there before Telkom slashed their prices? It seems that people who paid the old rate will now get worse service if they choose the cheaper option even though it should have been the same.

It fabricated after Telkom dropped their pricing.

Why is a 1Mbps Uncapped comparison not shown???

It is more of a case that MWeb needs products to capture the section of the market which consumes less data and is on uncapped hence introducing a daytime throttling product that competes for price against Telkom's reduced prices

Telkom uncapped is likely to experience some degradation with additional users but with the usage pool that they've got will still be able to offer an as good if not better product that MWeb's old product which has not seen a price change. MWeb will need to justify their premium service using something other than pretending that Telkom's lower priced product is inferior as an internet product, my guess is their content servers and Naspers backing will come into play quite soon.

I just find it amazing how they simply can't drop their price and offer the same Uncapped service for less. Instead they work out this old school "throttled" account as if to say "we have a cheaper option but you won't like it so rather stay with the premium account".

Your prices for uncapped are the highest in the country, when do you plan to drop it? Drop it and lose some money or keep it as is with your made up throttled accounts and lose alot more in clients going with Telkom or Axxess. There is no such thing as loyalty in the Internet Market, Cash is King.

Waiting for guinea pigs to test these accounts. Not going through the upgrade / downgrade, change ISP / change back, etc, etc, and end up back where I am now: Mweb 2 meg uncapped premium...

Why are all the threads about Telkom vs MWEB. How about Openweb`s Vanilla Uncapped unThrottled 4Mbps that kicks both their arses at R339? And it works. I didn't get much time to test my Openweb trial, but I have a few minutes now and my Top gear is coming down at 395kB/s.

Uncapped ADSL: Telkom versus MWEB

South Africa’s two largest consumer ISPs have recently made big pricing announcement regarding their uncapped ADSL products. This is how their prices compare

Excellent observation. The new "throttled" Mweb product should be compared to the Openweb Vanilla product (which is sometimes shaped during business hours, not throttled).

Are you saying Openweb Vanilla product is unshaped and throttled, but sometimes shaped during business hours?

I think Mweb is pulling the wool over our eyes! Everyone is just interested in speed! Nothing else! Why buy a Ferrari with a Beetle motor! Buy a Beetle with a Beetle motor. It is more cost effective! If other offerings are faster, go for it! I am looking for another ISP as Mweb has become a Ferrari with a Beetle motor with their latest "offerings" and their "Premuim" products are laughable!

When will Telkom reduce IPConnect, ADSL and POTS rental

When will Telkom reduce IPConnect, ADSL enablement, and POTS rental.?

The DATA (ISP) cost is a small component of the total cost.

It costs 3x for IPConnect than for international bandwidth.

It's time to Telkom to take an axe to IPConnect, ADSL enablement, and POTS rental..

See Telkom must cut where it hurts
http://www.techcentral.co.za/telkom-must-cut-where-it-hurts/37766/

Telkom is just throwing the market crumbs and putting pressure on other ISPs.
Looks like they are subsidising the costs of data with income from IPConnect.
By sharing management, marketing, brand, Telkom are directly subsidising TI.
Marketing: I don't see any reference on telkom.co.za to any other ISP except TI.
At this rate, a number of ISP's will become unsustainable.

If they really wanted to help, they would cut the costs of IPConnect, ADSL enablement, and POTS rental.

great marketing MWEB - R10 less and get throttled and "shaped" kewl.

that is just as intelligent as Telkom shutting down local usage but then again the internet "pastures" are full of sheep.

Dear Mr Staff Writer

Sir I’m sorry to inform you of an error in your table used for this article. There is a product (MWEB (throttled)) which actually cannot be compared with the other un-throttled products on the table.

Could you please correct the error before anyone notices as this could be conceived as you purposely trying to mislead the South African consumer?

Regards
Optel

+1

Its crazy - why create addition packages which will just confuse everyone even more. Just drop the price of the existing packages! Madness!
