I have a Dell Inspiron N1510 laptop running Windows 7. Every evening, when I switch it off, it downloads the latest updates but it doesn't seem to be installing them because it downloads what -seems-to-be the same updates every evening.

Any idea as to what the problem can be?

Do you have Admin rights on your login?

Have you checked for viruses / malware?

Admin rights not required.

It might be one update that's failing, check windows update for any failed updates and uncheck those

Hmm, my bad then. I'm pretty sure that on the kids machines (no Admin Permissions Logins), every once in a while there is an update that won't 'take' unless I login with an Admin level account....although, I may be confusing O/S level with browser level - I can definitely confirm that FireFox and Flash don't update if you're not logged in with Admin account.

Any 3rd party updates that do not rely on Microsoft's Windows Update platform will require admin rights.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. Will check check tonight. It's just funny that it's been working all the time and now all of a sudden it isn't.
