Hi Guys

Please help. My signal has been fluctuating in strength consistently since a week ago when JHB had a wind storm. Sentech insist that the error is not on their side, but rather due to the fact that my modem keeps on logging into the Sandton basestation (126). I live in Constantia Kloof (Roodepoort). I was told today that I should upgrade my modem software as I have the original software from two years ago. I downloaded the complete software from PROASM and also the BOOTLOADER.

I reinstalled the drivers, but every time I restart the computer the modem software insists on doing a upgrade. At the end of the upgrade the bootloader version has not changed.

What am I doing wrong ?

Software – 5.0.1.66c /a1(2.0) a2 (2.0)
Bootloader – 4.2.1.1

5.0.1.66c seems to have some bugs

I upgraded to 5.0.1.66c and my speed become very slow,(almost unusable)

downgrade back to 4.2.1.8 speed is normal again.

If there is no problem -dont fix it !

...the above! Seriously, AFAIK, this is an unsupported firmware configuration. As Connection quite rightly points out, you want to start with 4.2.1.8 (for both application- and bootloader) and then, in your specific case, very definitely upgrade the app loader to a 5.x series - like 5.0.1.66c (for all that gooku here seems to have a problem with it )

The reason I'm punting the 5.x series app loader? As you've seen, from where you live your modem can see the Sandton/126 tower - way, WAY too far away for you to connect to ..and a 5.x series app loader fixes that.

I'm still on the software from 2 years back and I think I lost my usb cable, but have no problems whatsoever. Should I upgrade to the newer firmware?

short "management" answer: "no"

longer answer:
- if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
- for all that everything else is on newer firmware, your tower seems to be accepting your modem just fine, so leave it alone - it works!
- doing anything will mean work on your part, if only to track down that USB cable. If you poke the process (which is possible, I know of two occasions where that's happened) it'll end up costing you not only time but money.

Be glad you're sitting so pretty and smirk at everyone else.. :D
